Got my Yaris in February and just learned about this forum

Hi all!

In mid February, I bought my 2009 Yaris 2dr Hatchback and just found out about this forum. I admit, I bought it because it was the cheapest new car I could find in the area after my 2003 Hyundai Accent was totalled after being hit from behind, but I like this little car.

My Yaris is white with gray pinstripes and a gray interior. It's a 5spd, with the only options being floor mats, MP3/WMA stereo, and 15 inch wheels. I wanted floor mats because when the appraiser inspected my totalled car for the insurance company, he docked me $225 for carpet damage, so I decided floor mats were a must.

Here is what I like about it.
For all the standard equipment, it was inexpensive to purchase, I paid around $15000(before $1500 rebate) for mine, with a big chunk being 9% local sales tax in my community. The car gets great mileage. I drive all city in stop and go traffic to and from work, and I get over 30mpg. It also feels more solid than the Hyundai, which I now think felt like a tin can compared the to the Yaris.

The only negatives I've found are the factory stereo doesn't sound great, the center mounted instruments took some getting used to, it didn't come with a tachometer, which is nice to have on a standard, and it doesn't have a lot of trunk space. Even so, I still think it's a great car.

Nice to be able to connect with other Yaris fans.

Really???? i mean i think the stereo rocks.. its pretty good quality and gets loud and same good quality.. Especially with Cds.... sounds badass.... The Center mount is just getting use to... It gets normal quick and yeah the tach part kinda sucks... but u can get one added for cheap. And you really think there is no space? If you need anymore space just throw ur back seats down and then u can fit a piano back there =)

I say it's just a so-so stereo, but it works ok for me. My wife thinks it sounds terrible, which is a good thing since she's hinted she might buy me a new car stereo for Christmas. She has an Alpine in her car, which may be why she thinks that.

I have since adapted to the center mounted instrument panel and don't mind it at all. As for the trunk space, the last 2 hatchbacks I owned were Ford Escorts, and they had more space without putting the seats down. My last car was a Hyundai Accent 4dr sedan, again, more trunk space without putting the seats down. Even though there isn't alot of space in the Yaris without putting down the seats, it doesn't bother me much.

Another thing I like is the 15 inch tires. My old Hyundai, and my wife's Hyundai, both ride on 13 inch tires, so they're lower to the ground. Sometimes I now have trouble getting out of my wife's car because it's lower than the Yaris. In my area, we seem to have problems finding good tires for the Hyundai, because most tire shops here don't stock good 13 inch tires and a few don't have them at all. We also needed to replace a rim on one of the Hyundais and nobody in town other than the dealer had the right size, and of course they charged us bigtime for it. The Yaris came with Goodyear tires, hopefully they'll be good for longer than a year.

I bought my Yaris because it was cheap and I needed a new car, but it's a great car and I hope I can keep it for a long time.

I have a 08 dr hatch, and between the 3 glove boxes, door pockets, under the front seats, and in the spare tire well; you may be quite surprised how much you can carry in this car.
A class 1 hitch and a hitch basket allow for putting cooler size items outside.

Our family of 3 has taken a week long vacation with car and had ample room. (creatively packed)

Mine also lacked a tach, which helped to justify the purchase of a ScanGuage II. Practice with the ScanGuage to apply just enough gas to maintain desired speed or RPM and your Mpg can go even higher.
