But if I do take a new video, you'll be sure to have a fluffy tour guide

Thomas, how big was the original video file. I'm playing around with my camera mount and am trying to make a video.

It was recorded on a MiniDV camera, I have very little experience with those, but when I transfered out the original footage on my hard drive, it came to a 7GB uncompressed AVI file for about 16 minutes of video

That being said, recompressed to MP4 (h264 ftw!), at 640x480 resolution, the final 9-minute video was a little over 100MB

in-car video recording is addictive

Thanks. I filmed a short 3 minute video on my digital camera which is stored as an 640x480 AVI file. I'm guessing that there's little compression because the darn thing is 141MB.

Once I transfer this to YouTube, I'll try to recompress to MP4 to see how much smaller it can be.

Do you know if YouTube FLV keeps the same level of compression or do they compress?

Well, they took a pretty darn long time to process the video after I uploaded it, so they certainly recompressed it.

This should be good reading:

Thanks, that was a good read. I just uploaded a 28MB MP4 version of the recording but when I played it back on YouTube, I did not like the quality. I'm uploading the 141MB file right now and will compare the two before I post my own thread.

I think it's just some kind of interference with the video refresh rate due to the PWM dimming, they're quite steady to the eye

Oh I see now. Well it still had a pretty awesome effect, kinda like the heart beat of the car. Possibly a new accessory mod to your car in the future, if it exists

BTW, my ex-GFs face used to throb like that whenever I pissed her off LOL
