Brand New 2010 Yaris 5 door automatic, <200 miles, MPG

new 2010 5dr auto Yaris with 100 miles on it, drove for 100 miles.

-------
50% driving on US RT3 north about 60-67-several passing bursts to 80 mph

50% driving around town, 25-45 mph
-------
real world MPG, without hypermiling, just driving sane....35.5 mpg

me 170lbs, and 50lbs cargo
------------------------------------------------------------------
calibrated and tested real MPG 35.5 just doing what I normally do
measured fuel by using same nozzle same time of day same pump,
so it is not scientific, but real world, since we all do this

used 1) Yaris Odometer 2) GPS system 3) scangauge 4) 87 octane mobil

-------------------------------------------------------------------
in my 99 4runner this would be 19-21 max for the same type of trip. usually
around 17 or so under 100 miles...goes to 22 on good days for the entire tank.

I assume you are pleased with that mileage, since you posted the big grin? I don't blame you, if you are. Under those driving conditions, I think 35.5 is excellent mileage for a car that has not even begun to break-in yet.

I am using a 2010 Yaris and the best I could get from a 35litre is 245miles. Is this a normal fuel utility or should I be worried?

Mixed metric and imperial units, but it seems rather poor. That works out to roughly 8.9 litres per hundred km. Is this heavy city traffic?

Sorry for coming back late on this, not so much heavy city traffic just normal city driving. I was formerly using conventional oil, I switched to synthetic though I get much quiet engine it didn't improve my milage much.

What could be the problem?

Thanks
PS: No check engine light

Whats your odometer reading now and when was you last preventive maintenance?

mine was about the same as yours at 75k KM then i changed spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor and replaced the engine air filter during the lube oil change (synthetic all the time).

It made a big difference and the engine is now more economical and powerful than before. Currently at 35.2 - 37.6MPG whereas before it was around 29.4MPG

Check the fuel tank capacity again. I believe it is 42 litres

Also, clean the MAF sensor. You'll love the result
