Smile Power steering

Hello from Malta

Today I was driving my Yaris and the power steering hardend all of a sudden and was difficult to turn to pull aside then switched off the engine to check for a puncture but it was not
After I got back in the car and tried to start it but it would not, after I tried a couple of times the engine would not start, at first I thought it was the battery but the electric windows lights and ac still worked normal but it would not start

Does anyone know what could be wrong please

Is it a 1st gen (2005 or older) Yaris with hydraulic power steering or a 2nd gen (2006+) with electric power steering?

Without knowing more details, if it is an <=05, then I would check to see if the belt snapped, which would mean that the alternator and power steering pump are not being spun.

My thought is: belt snapped, power steering went away, and alternator stopped charging the battery, so the battery is too low to crank.
