New toyota Vios?

Hey everyone;

Not sure if you've seen this or not, but this looks like a new version of the Vios/Yaris sedan.

Dunno if we're going to get it in the US or not.

I doubt we'll get it, as it may compete too closely to the new Corolla. And since Toyota doesn't make much margin on the Yaris to begin with, I can't imagine seeing in in the U.S. It actually looks pretty good.

I heard the Yaris sedan would be made by Mazda, I thought. Anyone else hear that?

The toyota production plant will be in mexico, owned by Mazda. they have ties to have the subcompacts (yaris, unsure if sedan) since mazda has bough the rights to the hybrid technology of priuses.

We already have those Vioses here, we don't have the hatches yet as i'm sure Toyota hasn't sold a lot of their 2nd gen hatches yet. (3rd world country like ours normally prefer the sedans over the hatches in the econobox category)

There is still hope that there will be a suitable replacement if I really need one (hopefully no time soon).

Great info! I didn't know Mazda had purchased the right to use Prius technology, nor any of the information about the Phillipines.

well apparently they are the 2nd one to purchase this tech from Toyota. Nissan was the first.

Don't get me wrong though, hybrids are not a common sight here in the Philippines as the government hasnt passed the bill for alternative fuel tax exemption. Prius and CRX cost a fortune.

CRX . Do you mean CR-Z? Or is the CR-Z given the old CRX moniker in the Phillipines ?

Why no C.V.T. for the Vios (Yaris ) like that of the new Corolla ? Be interesting to see if any increase in F.E. with one over the 4 speed auto .

In the US, the Prius is the price of a Camry with no tax credit/exemption program. Starts around $23K USD. What is it where you are? And why would it need a tax exemption to be affordable if Toyota retails it at $23K USD without government intervention?

2,250,000.00 Philippine Pesos at today's exchange rate = $52,179.96 USD. Crazy . An older hit from this search indicates outrageous price = because of taxes, but that hit = a 2008 post.

I don't like that it has the little (what I call) 'punch out' window in the rear door (allows for easier break ins....and one of the reasons I like the Gen 3 Yaris 5 door better than the Gen 2 Yaris 5 door), but still....it is a great looking 4 door sedan .

Unbelievable. And it's like this in many countries. It's good to be an American.

Add to that gas prices in other countries. We forget how good we have it here.

Yep.

http://www.statista.com/statistics/2...und-the-world/

^^^^^ From January 3rd - January 18th 2013 -- Gas Prices in 25 selected countries around the world. Only four of them are cheaper than the U.S.....and (no offense intended to members in those countries) I might want to visit or do enjoy visiting those countries, but I wouldn't want to live the rest of my life in any of them (especially Iran and Venezuela).

I paid $2.93 per gallon for my last fill up .
