Stained Speedo & Stereo
Basically my brother decided to use some cheap .99 cent cleaner wipe on the glass/plastic and it stained badly. I cannot seem to get it out. Will I have to replace this, if how? Can the dealer help in any way? Its such a pain because it blocks the view of the speedometer while I'm driving.
These are the best pics I could get: As you can see, it looks like someone scratched it badly but it isnt, just stained from cheepo cleaner wipes. Any help appreciated, thanks. Last edited by Vang; 07-16-2009 at 12:40 AM. |

Whew! After looking the title of this thread I was REALLY hesitant about reading on. Good thing it wasn't what I had initially thought.
How about the plastic restorer they use for restoring headlights like out plastic Yaris headlights? Don't know if it'll work, but if it works for headlights... |

use that plastic restore for headlights. Its a really mild abrasive you just use a microfiber cloth and buff out the haze. Will make plastic look like new again. If that dosnt work then use a really mild sandpaper the kind used for clearcoat sanding and wet sand it. Then hit it lastly with the plastic restore it will look like new again.

UPDATE:
I bought the Meguiar's headlight restoration kit and it worked out ok. It didn't remove all of the stains on the speedometer, but removed everything on the stereo and gave it a new life! Didn't use a drill, just my hands. Took like 15 minutes, I'm satisfied, but wish everything could just go away. Here are some before and after pics: BEFORE: AFTER: |

If you really want to get rid of the light scratches and fog buy a micro mesh kit. Its about $30. Grits from 3200 up to 20000, maybe even 27000.
