Cold Air Intake
Hooked up my own cold air set-up today. I used some spare stuff I had laying around, a curved tubing piece with a flat spot that I bored a hole into for the MAF. Then added an adapter piece to accept a cone filter. It sure sounds better now. I will monitor the fuel milage and see if I notice any performance gains. If no difference then I will put the stock system back on and get a K&N when they come out.

Looking good! I'd say it's more of a short ram intake though. Generally a cold air intake will sit a lot lower to the ground. The filter on my CAI for my 2000 celica sits right behind the fog light.

True enough. The air should be picked up from an out of engine bay source like the fender well or the grill etc. I did'nt think it would be too cool to cut a hole in my new fender just yet. Plus I want to see if it will have any benefits. It should, the stock filter and HC shield should be more restrictive than the cone I put on. It does feel a little lighter, could just be the sound. I'll see if I pick up any MPG in about a week.

If that device can increase not only power but also mpg and hence save fuel costs, wonderful! I always like things that can pay for themselves in the long run. Well, may be the very very long run. I am staying tuned.

Well as promised I did my fuel calculations with my cold air set-up and the mileage came out exactly the same as my last two tanks with the stock set-up. Difficult to tell if I gained any power without a dyno. So I put the stock system back on and will drop a K&N in when available and cut the fender side of the air box open cause I love that sound! Also cut the noise supressor out that is in behind the TB when the warranty is up. It covers half of the intake with a course wire mesh.

O.K. I caved. Is it the power of the mind or..? I re-installed my cold air set-up, slightly modified. I swear it's got more balls verses the stock system. Once again without dynoing it or doing some before and after timed runs, I can't say for sure. However going to an open air intake system almost always increases H.P.

I'd be amazed if that setup did not net something more than stock hp figures.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket cold air intake that's currently available for the Yaris 1.5L?

There are some for the Scion Xa/Xb. Shouldn't these work? I haven't tried yet, but just wondered as it's the same engine, right....?

You can browse this list at http://www.envyperformance.com/index...category_id=17. They say the APEXI POWER INTAKE is one of the best...

That's a nice Backyard type deal, looks really clean. Butt dyno counts too.
the Injen SRI for Scion xA/xB should fit in that space. Last edited by DJ_SpaRky; 04-11-2006 at 08:06 AM. |

I have the Injen (black) CAI.
Pretty cool and sound great. Not sure it does anything for power, though lol. Look nice:)

which cold air intake will give you the most power gain, I'm thinking about getting one but I dont want to waste my money if i'm only going to see like 1 hp gain. I really dont want to do exhaust either its just too loud for me as a daily driver 80+ miles.
