We bought our Yaris CE Sedan in 2007 and I used this forum as a great knowledge base up until the end. I'd love to buy another Yaris, but they don't sell them here any longer so here's our last hurrah, which is a kudos to the engineers and workers in Aichi, Japan who made our car:

14 years 4 months.

No expenses outside of minimal, but regular maintenance by myself.

TCO: 47k, which is 116k less than the average TCO for a car where I live over that time period.

Sad to see this car go. We're only selling it because it's our only vehicle and it's over 14 years old.

Glad you had such a good run. Are you in the market for another car right now? If so, I'm curious what you're looking at.

Thank you for asking. We actually purchased a base model corolla hatchback.

Less practical than the Yaris and we were planning on getting a sedan, but we weren't impressed with their build quality of the sedan and when we test drove a hatch we instantly wanted it. We found the seats, driving position and fit and finish of the hatch to be much better for our preferences (even though they look the same or similar on spec) and then we were trying to figure out what the difference was, we found out the hatch is built in Japan in the same factory our Yaris was built.

Once we felt positive towards the hatch, we tried fitting stuff into it to see if it's storage space would work for us and it did. Then I researched it and found out that at less than $300 more than the LE sedan, but the hatch comes with the better engine, transmission, does better on gas etc, that sealed it for us.

We don't mind going without the heated seats and blind traffic monitoring, rear collision avoidance and spare tire as I'm comfortable with a real tire repair kit (not the one Toyota gives you). It also comes with 15 inch steels, but they give a more comfortable ride and do better on gas than bigger alloy rims which I no longer desire to much for unless they are OZ superleggera

We also wanted the 2.0 engine and the SE sedan with this engine is over 1500 more here than the hatch.

Fit, finish, comfort sold us on the hatch, but it's not for everyone. As it suits our needs it's a great value. I doubt it will last nearly as long and trouble free as our Yaris, but we really like it even though it has so much more plastic and technology when compared to older, more reliable cars.

I should say, I'm in Canada. Cars are way more expensive here than the USA, so we often have base models with less equipment than in the USA to help the manufacturers hit price points. Our Hatchback is a model S, whereas in the USA the SE is the base. Here the SE is another 2200+ and you just get alloys, heated seats, blindspot monitoring RTA, leather steering wheel and wrapped shift knob. CVT models. None of those things are worth much to us, so that's why the S model works.

I'm not often sentimental, but it was a little difficult to let go of this car when it still has so much life in it. We lived a lot of moments with that car.

Good luck, voodoo. I love the Corolla hatch, and if I ever had to get another car, I think I'd probably make the same choice, for sure.

voodoo22, the hatch looks like a nice car. I won't be getting a new car in a few years, but I will likely consider the hatch (hopefully it'll stick have a manual transmission option)!

The manual is awesome, but unfortunately the passengers don't enjoy as much how I like to drive a stick so I went with the CVT!
