Roof Rails...NOT rack

I was at thule dealer and he said he did a yaris 3DR that had roof rails(Not rack)

The rails appeared to be factory and all that was needed was cross members which he installed.

Only thing that comes up are these rails.

These are only cosmetic though.

Anyone know anything about load bearable rails for the yaris.

He said they went in the roof seems where the 2 metals are joined.

These are decorative but gives idea.

The tracks are a bonus since the rack can be removed.

Thanks for the link.

As far as I know, rails were never a dealer/factory option.

I may use this and drill my own holes.

The length/width can be lessened.

Thule and yakima are way over priced for what it is and needs to do.

I think I will DIY it.

Only needs to carry a 30lb 8 ft kayak.

Sounds like you have your mind made up, but I have my Thule Traverse rack system sitting around still (sold the Yaris). I'll sell it to you for a reasonable price.

rack/s

I appreciate the reply and offer.

I went with the amazon one I linked.

I wil be drilling hole in channel and use a stud with nut on the inside and nut in the channel. Its gonna be rock solid.

I also got a thule wind deflector to go with it.

Even if I was willing to spend the thule or yakima price I find It bulky and not a fan of the hook system.

I may post pic/s when done?

You will definitely post pics when done. Not just end result either. Since so few rail installs have been done, we need another one with a pictorial documentation of the process.

Rack not rails.

They are not considered rails but rack.I linked item.

I was talking to an auto body friend and he says the metal is thick in the roof ditch area.He said 5-6mm wide bolt type screws would hold the rack no issue.

He said you could probaly pull the bars off before the mounts would come off?

He said using stud wouldint really be that much stronger and considering rack is only holding 38 LB kayak anyway.

A fixed crossbar install has never been done. Definitely need full pictorial for future reference.

I will be screwing down to make the process easier and use what parts I already have around.

Not much to document but I will post how I did it with pics.
