ATF@80K, Maintenance log.

I have read all the posts regarding interval for the maintenance in the AT.

Also noted this is an issue that most can't agree, but after opening the transmission in my car I wish I had done it earlier.

The magnets in the pan were completely covered with particles and it's obvious that the filter was saturated.

For my driving habits and conditions even 50k was probably to much.

Current miles are 8xK, one owner only.

It's still red. But with the small amount of fluid one can get out of it, I'll be doing mine every other year. I've got 82K and everything looked clean the last time I change it.

I still cant find any spark plugs on mine!

I wish I could say the same, nothing was clean in there.

Yeah only the GT version come with those in the transmission

Have you heard of a better fluid, that one can buy in a store?

I would normally try RedLine in my cars, but I heard some negative about it in the Yaris AT. Also talked with Dave at RL, and he even told me they have nothing the 100% correct to replace the WS type fluid, but said the D4 is close.

I dont want close. I use the RL ATF D4 in my 88 Land Cruiser, and it's Fantastic!

But I dont want to take any risk with my cut little Yaris AT.

I went to the stealership and got ATF WS. Saves me the hassle of finding out what's what. If I had to use something other than OEM would probably try AMSOIL.

I gave my 86 Chevy Silverado to my brother in law 15 years ago when it had ~200k miles on it. It has almost 400k on it now.

Auto trans.

Same fluid as the day I bought it.

The "dirt" in your pictures is meaningless.

Took the car for a long city-hwy test and the shifting has improved greatly.

I stand by my comments, 50k for my driving habits was probably the limit.

Decided to check the valves and clean the intake manifold as part of the 80k maintenance I been doing, and found one valve completely covered in carbon.

It happens to be the one close to the PCV valve return. Maybe the oil catch filter is not such a bad idea after all.

all other intake ports and valves were clean.

I think AMSOIL has a auto tranny fluid that replaces the WS . Some say the Wal-Mart tranny fluid has approval for use . Might be stated on the back of the bottle . I'd stick to the WS .

^ Yeah AMSOIL have good products, but I usually stick to the LHF (Low hanging fruit) and get the stuff that works.

Hmmm have you checked the clearances and if so, how were they?

Carbon on one valve next to the PCV valve:

1) Do other engines have this thing?

2) If not why is yours spewing so much oil the valve got carboned?

3) maybe we all need oil catchers.

It was only a visual inspection with an endoscope from the intake port.

Hard to say, but if oil goes in to the intake port, it will burn and leave carbon residue.

Some here and in other boars I frequent have reported oil in the PCV system, to some degree unless it's vented it to the atmosphere it is possible that oil gets sucked into the intake.

It seems that way.

If anyone is interested, here is a short video of that valve.

That'll be interesting . There was a U.O.A. for the W.S. at BobIsTheOilGuy , the results weren't all that impressive . Think there was less than 40,000 on it . The U.O.A. is somewhere in this topic thread , http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...oard=16&page=1 . Here's the newer thread for the W.S. , http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...2896972&page=1 . There are others .

Received the sample kit from Blackstone Labs, I will be sending the sample on Monday.

Saw several threads about PCV replacement, bellow the part number for it, and some other items I have replaced as part of the 80k maintenance.
