Hey guys, world cup starting tomorrow. Any football(soccer) fans here? I will say Netherland all the way. Yeah, I am crazy.

no, i'm pretty much the stereotypical canadian hockey fan, dissapointed in the shabby performance and bad luck of the oilers in the final so far.
i find some soccer/football painful to watch, the italian league for example has so much diving that the game has no flow, there is always some guy rolling on the pitch, then the trainer comes over with his magical spray and he is healed. it is too easy to play a defensive game and shutdown your opponent in soccer, last years eurocup final portugal vs greece is the perfect example, offensive powerhouse portugal had 4 shots on net the whole game. boring game, imo, the world may be hooked on it, but i think they just don't know good entertainment when they see it. |

silverrs, i noted a hint of sarcasm in your "hockey players never dive" post,
i will say that diving was never a part of hockey in the past , but that it is now creeping in more and more, and that is one of the problems with the game, imo, having said that, the amount of diving in some european soccer leagues has approached the completely ridiculous. |

No I know, I agree with you totally. I don't like seeing diving in any pro sport, very unsportsmanlike like. It’s just such a difficult call for a ref most of the time though. You also have to factor in the mechanics of the two sports. Soccer (football) is played with the feet meaning there is more potential for diving in the sport, as for hockey it is harder to make the dive as believable with the use of sticks. I’m positive there would be more diving if hockey were played with their feet (skates)
