Another Yaris in the Family!

My son is getting a 2008 silver blue three door hatchback. Its not a done deal yet. Its from a dealer, is a certified car, and has 54k on it.

$9000.

Now that we have the car and I have observed it, here are some observations.

I wish I bought a Toyota Certified used Yaris like this one instead of the new one I bought! The car comes with a list of everything wrong with it and what the dealer did to correct it. For instance, they did no body work to the car and NJ law requires of they did any they have to tell you about it. They changed the air filter, the battery, put new tires on it, changed the oil and the cabin air filter too and put new top of the line beam type wiper blades on it front and rear. If you paid a dealer to do these things it costs $1333.

A new Yaris is like $20,000 out the door or very nearly that. This one went for $9000. It has a year or 12,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty. Its been gone over.

It suits my purposes perfectly!

Dont buy new!

Bronsin I bought certified used, car had 8'500 miles on it.

Certified used warranty covers guess what?.....................waterpump to 100k/7yrs, that plus the extended on the control arm bolts to 100k I feel I am in good shape at least till 2016.

Thanks! The other day he said this about his ECHO:

"I like the ECHO because its reliable, cheap to own, and no one would think to steal it."

Thats my boy!

It now belongs to the family in general. We are in the process of deciding what to do with it. Theres no CEL, the engine and transmission work fine, it needs an alternator (bearing noisy) the front end is noisy going over bumps, and the front bumper plastic is messed up. The power steering isnt working. It has ~200k miles but it runs OK. If we can get $1500 for it it probably will be sold. If not we will keep it for a spare in case someones car goes in the shop.

I paid $3000 for it six years ago to get him through college and hes put ~80k miles on it. Its been to Seattle and back twice from NJ. I would guess we've put $750 into it over that time. IF we can sell it for $1500 thats $2250 for the use of a car over that time period.

Not bad!
