Unhappy Yaris Stolen

My daughter's 2009 Yaris was stolen on New Years eve. She came home from a party and her apartment was ransacked. They took her laptop, ipod and found her car keys and stole her Yaris.

It hasn't been recovered yet and the insurance company won't give her what it's worth so she'll lose a lot of money that she doesn't have. She's a great kid and certainly doesn't deserve this. The police aren't really doing anything.

Anyway, I was hoping to help her by posting this and maybe someone notices a 2009 4-door light blue Yaris sitting on the side of the road or in a parking lot. The lic plate is 392-PER, but the thieves may have already removed them.

Thank you.

Insurance gave their quote based on what value? It should be laid out in her coverage. If it's lower than the set value based on what it says, then she has a problem and should contact them immediately before accepting any action plans or compensation.

Was her apartment the only one accessed? I say accessed because I don't know the particulars of the scene. ALso was it an apartment, dorm, duplex etc? If her apartment was the only one, they should be looking at friends, friends of friends etc. Once a stolen report in generated, a BOLO is administered from the department to all officers on duty. IF the responding department did their job, I'm sure it was received and passed along accordingly. One of two things are usually done with stolen cars. It was either dumped after the joy ride or parted out. Since they took personal items in the home, I'm sure they were out for the joy of it rather than to chop the ride. To say the Police are not doing anything would be a little harsh. If the car is not on the move, it can't be seen.

Good luck, hope she is able to get her car back.

depends on your insurance but they tried to undervalue my old car that was hit and totaled and I had full coverage on the car.

i told them I wanted this much or i wasnt signing. Ended up taking them to court and they signed me a check for a little bit over what I wanted before we even went in.

remember, they are out to make money, dont settle until you feel its fair

Kustom Play, is the value they want to give for your car bases on some kind of statical data, like KBB value, average used price for a similar car or something? How negotiable is it?

I'm concerned about this because if I total my current car, I would love to get more than $5500 (KBB) for it! Sold with sound system and all mods I would probably get over $10,000 before totaling it.

i had receipts and proof of everything that went into the car (mind you I had full coverage + everything such as glass, fire, theft, vandalism)

they offered me about blue book, but at the time (this was an MR2) you couldnt get one at blue book. I told them i would accept it if they find me a replacement in the same condition for what they want to give me.

The adjusters exact words were "we can't they sell for a lot more then that"

if you can back up what you have, then tell them you want this or you'll take it to court. worked for me

i have classic insurance on my other MR2 now, i think book on it is like 3 or 4. Its insured for 12K though my classic policy. KBB is skewed IMO

Sounds like the "joy ride" scenario to me. I would think in cases like that most of the time it's recovered. I could be wrong though.

The Yaris doesn't seem like a car to be stolen for parts.

This seems to be a problem in the Madison, WI area.
Look at this link:
http://madisonnearwest.channel3000.c...ehicles-stolen

It's from November 2010, but indicates that all those vehicles were recovered.
So, maybe your daughter's will be found in a parking lot somewhere or on
the side of the road.

I am assuming it is an automatic, as many young theives don't know how to
drive a manual transmission...at least that has been documented in some
articles around here. Stupid criminals tried to carjack someone, but couldn't
drive it away.

If you have a pic, please post it and let us know what happens.

As of today the car hasn't been recovered. The cops assigned a detective to the case yesterday so that's a good sign. Thanks for the tip about holding out on the settlement. That may come in handy.

Not many. The Yaris is supposedly one of the least stolen vehicles.

In this situation, they didn't seek out a Yaris to steal, but simply came across the keys for a random car to take.

I had State Farm insurance back in 1999 when someone broke into my daughter's Prism and stole $2k worth of tools and other things. State Farm didn't want to cover anything because I didn't have receipts for anything.

I wrote them a very nice letter and told them that I would make it my mission in life to tell everyone that I knew, and most of the other people I came into contact with, that State Farm rips their customers off.

They tried to call me and talk to me but I refused to talk to them . About a month later, I received a check for the value of the items stolen.

You just have to let them know that you bad mouth their insurance company and drive away enough business that making you happy will actually save them money.

Insurance companies don't care about law suits....they have the lowest form of sea life.....and that includes being lower than whale shit.
