Is extended warranty (6 yrs/75,000 miles) worth it for 2009 Yaris sedan?
Is extended warranty worth it for 2009 Yaris sedan?
Just purchased 2009 Yaris from dealer with 25,000 miles. Still have 1 year on original warranty. Is it worth purchasing an extended warranty for $1275. It's for 6 years, 75,000 miles and covers parts and labor, towing and car rental with a $50 deductible. Have been told in general they are not worth it. Thanks for comments Marlene |

For this car in particular I'd say no. For $1,275 you could replace the entire engine twice(with a low mileage used one, DIY). That's the only reason I bought my Yaris with 450k already on the odometer.

My 08 sedan has never been to a dealership since delivery. No need.

NO and yes (more so the NO- capitalized).
This car doesn't really need it BUT if you are insistent on having it, give that one back while you still can! Then go out to any other dealership or an online broker (usually another farther Toyota dealer) and buy from them for cheaper. JUST MAKE SURE IT'S A TOYOTA WARRANTY! They can be had for around 500 to 800 from brokers. I'm sure in their sales pitch, they said some thing about..."bla bla blah...if you're not satisfied within xx days......" Depending on what they said, take it back now!-- this is because the longer you wait, the more they will have to pro-rate it even though it doesn't take effect yet. And yes, read the fine print in it's entirety.

hell no. just make sure you have the used car checked out thoroughly by a mechanic you trust before you buy it.
