Air conditioning filter

I went to change the cabin filter and there was no filter in place. Bought used 2009 Yaris and want to know if there may be damage to this system.

I searched here after discovering that my Yaris didn't have one to begin with as well. It seems that the Yaris did not come with a cabin filter from the factory.

My 07 hatchback has one, it's behind the glove box like most cars are. Is the 09 a different generation because that's the only reason I'd suspect why yours wouldn't have one.

Just buy a filter and move it in.
If the AC works till now, it will keep working.
But I can imagine some dirt on the evaporator etc. The bad thing is that you need to remove dashboard to get there and clean it - and it is not an easy job. So I would just let it be.

US 2nd gen Yaris did not come with a cabin filter. Why? I don't know, but simple enough to fix. Just buy one, even the cheapest Amazon special is better than nothing. The installation is easy but they are supposed to mount with a certain side up. There should be an arrow printed on the filter but read the instructions for the actual filter you purchase. On some filters the arrow means filter should be positioned facing up while on others the arrow signifies the direction of airflow and the arrow would point down. It probably wouldn't make much difference if it was installed upside down but something to be aware of.

My 2007 did not come with a Cabin Filter installed.
I installed one myself. As there is a position for one in the system.

Many cars do not have a cabin filter. I have many friends with cars, and I noticed that their cars don't have that stuff. I think it's okay because it depends on the car generation and your is one of that. But, if you want to fix it, you could buy one of those from amazon or ebay. I saw a lot of options for cars when I was searching for an air conditioner. If someone has problems or is looking for an aircon, you can check for sure airconservicing.org. Somehow my family used it, and I didn't know about it.

Bought a new 2006 Honda Odyssey and it did not have a filter as per the model I bought (LX)... had to pull out the filter tray and remove these plastic inserts that blocked the flow of air through the tray. Installed a filter and emailed a nasty email to Honda...
