Another Yaris owner here, I've just joined this forum because I'm bit of a noob when it comes to cars. My other half, has been driving a Yaris since 2004 and I've been having the pleasure since 2010. We've clocked about 90,000 miles in the Yaris and it had a few expensive repairs to the braking mechanism (think it was something called the brake shoe - need to check receipt to be sure). We thought it was about time to get a new drive, but Yaris just seems to work. So much so, we've traded the old Yaris for the new model on a 2013 plate. Should be here in less than two weeks.

Look forward to discussions with fellow Yaris owner in UK and around the world.

I've noticed that the disc pad replacement item has been removed from the forum. Does anyone know what kind of bolts hold the caliper on. I watched a youtube video and figured all you need is a 14 mm socket and a spanner to undo the bolts that hold the caliper on. However when I came to it there's a rubber or neoprene cover over the bolt head with a plug to stop dirt entering. I tried a variety of sockets to no avail. Then I figured it must be an Allen type bolt and tried a variety of metric Allen keys to no avail. I'm a bit worried of prying the rubber cover off and damaging it. Does anyone know what the correct tool is and whether it's a special Toyota tool. The car is a 2007 3 cylinder model built in France not Japan. The pads are the audible wear warning type and the noise is driving me nuts LOL

I spent ages yesterday trying to find out what you need to remove the caliper to do the pad change. I found out a couple of hours ago.

The new pads are now fitted, and the car is so quiet it's like driving around in a library.

First, if anyone is going to change the pads on the French built Yaris, there are various pads available, and they're not all compatible, according to the spares place I used. You have to fit the correct ones, I hate the word obviously, it usually drives me nuts, but obviously they have to be the correct ones.

The spares place in Bolton where I bought them, had access to all the normal IT stuff. I gave the guy the VIN, my registration number, everything apart from my maternal great grandma's first teacher's maiden name. Very thorough spares guy! Anyway he handed over the pads, and told me he was 99.999% certain they were the right ones.

Fortunately he gave me the correct ones.

The problem getting the guide pin or Caliper bolts out, was solved with an Allen key, 7 mm. For the rest you need very little, but my mate Martin figured it would be best to clean the channels that the pads slide in, and apply a wee bit of copper grease to help the pads move. At 46,000 miles the guide pins were slightly corroded and we put a thin film of copper grease on them too. I wonder if there'll be any electrolytic activity? MDR.

The job is very straightforward.

One thing that occurred to me is that I could have pushed a cylinder-shaped piece of plasticine down the rubber protective cylinder to take an imprint of the allen type bolt. I could then have measured it. Hindsight is so useful LOL

Hi guys I'm new here, picking up my first Yaris from the dealers tomorrow although we do already have one in the family which I have used frequently.

Just posting to say hi and wondering if they are any independent toyota specialists in the Herts / Beds area that you guys recommend.

Can't wait until the morning.

Hi - I got my Yaris (MK3) last week, so add one more to the UK list, but I'm not much for modding - Just keeping it running smoothly & looking as good as possible.
