Replacing broken OEM Head Unit, is SEC going to be an issue?
Hi all, new Yaris owner here which also happens to be my first car.
I'm looking at replacing the OEM head unit (with the same one, except a working unit) as the radio buttons don't work in my current one - looking to buy from ebay and all the listings I see mention that they do not include a Security Key as part of the auction. Is this going to be an issue for me or will replacing the stereo not trigger the security code request? The vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Yaris Zinc, Hatchback. If you could help me out that'd be much appreciated. |

AFAIK there's no security codes in the factory head units. That's a VAG thing, from what I've seen.

My OEM radio had a security code. This was triggered any power was removed from the radio. When power was reapplied, the code had to be entered before the radio would work again. Other car companies, and some aftermarket radios have a similar system.
This is supposed to be a theft deterrent. It does not affect any thing else in the car.

So how do I go about getting this security code so that I don't end up with the new radio not working at all?

When I bought my Yaris, the original radio manual was supplied. This had a card with it that had the code on it. The manual for the radio details how to enter the code, and how to change it to a different code if you want. I bought 2 Toyotas from the same dealer, and both had been set to the same code.
