Why are there only axle back exhaust???
Does anyone know why there are only axle-back exhaust systems for the Yaris's??? Being an ex-Honda guy I was always used to getting a cat-back. I just feel that I'm getting hosed. There has to be a full cat back. Does anyone know why? Thanks

I'm pretty sure it is because the cat is welded to the mid-pipe. It is illegal to modify this, like cutting, in places like California. Companies don't want to deal with stuff like that.

Companies will make CARB illegal products. The California market is huge, but there are 49 others you know. The reason is in part because of the placement of the cat. The other reason is the two PITA oxygen sensors in the midpipe. A catback exhaust would have to include a midpipe with the proper defoulers to deal with them. This would be CARB illegal... and a whole lot of fun. I hear you may see something like this very soon.

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like I will be making a test pipe when I get a Yaris. Of course it will be for offroad use only...
How many sensors are in the mid pipe? I O2 sensor? |

i have one... its 2.5" all the way back. I have no cats just a straight pipe. And to answer your question there is one in the header area and one in the midpipe underneath the seating area.

turboyaris, are you throwing an O2 code or did you get an O2 simulator to fool the ECU?

never really checked what my check engine light is on for.... I can think of numerous reasons.. no egr no cats bigger injectors higher pressure then the sensors are supposed to see. things like that. That being said, I would imagine that you would throw a o2 sensor code. I think the other day I set the record for most warning lights on at once. Check engine, maint required (oil changed just didnt feel like resetting the light) low washer fluid, no seat belt, no passenger seatbelt, no pass airbag, and the other air bag light under the speedometer. haha it was pretty amusing. Well to me it was anyways.

lol, not quite something I'd be proud of but cool! lol
For other members, I would imagine that a straight pipe would throw an O2 code to the ECU. If you put on a high-flow cat, you might get away with a full exhaust. Otherwise, I would suggest getting an O2 simulator for it.

i'm fairly proud of it... the only neglect in the car was with the low wiper fluid which kinda just happened. As for the other stuff it all had a rhyme or reason, like i wasnt wearing my seatbelt. The passenger seat was unplugged, the check engine light is cause its turboed. So its pretty cool when you can have that many warning lights and still be running 100%
