Hi, welcome to the forum. I don't know if you have owned your Yaris for some time, or just bought it recently.

If you have only recently got the Yaris, then you may not be aware that there is a sideways movement of the gear lever from "D" to "3" before you can move the lever to "2" or "L".

Of course, this might not be the case, but I know my wife got caught out by this even after we had owned the car for more than a year. It was just something she had never tried before.

yes I Am new with Yaris, the issue is that I can shift normally from P to D and no problem. I know that you have to move the sides to go down on 2 and L. In my case it doesn't move to the sides it stop in D. I remove the shift cable from the shifter assy and pushing and pulling the cable manually it moves though all the shift positions. without the shift cable attached to the shifter assy the shift stick stop at D. I think that the problem is in the shifter assy.

Okay, I only have a service manual for the series 3 Yaris, but it's probably very similar for this. The cable has an adjuster where is connects to the shift lever, and the manual states that shifting problems can be encoungered if this is not adjusted properly. It's not quige clear in the manual, but looks like the shift lever assembly need to be removed to do this.

Perhaps someone who has had shifting problems can add more information.
