Weird starting issue 2007 auto yaris

About twice a week when I goto start the car it will crank for a while and then start. Like its having a hard time starting. Today it made a sound like it was winding up and then started. These fits usually only last a couple of seconds and its never failed to start. Is this just the way the car is? Thanks

2007 auto yaris 4 door.

In several past discussions of this same issue on this board, it's generally turned out that someone was turning loose of the key too quickly when the starter motor starts turning. Hold it in the Start position a little longer.

Need more information: mileage, last tune-up, last maintenance, general up keep, idle and performance, and what you have done or tried...etc.

I'd like to bump this as my wifes Yaris is doing this now.....

she has always turned the key to start and released it immediately, over the past few days the starter engagement has been getting weaker sounding and the turn over is slowing down....I'm wondering what could cause it....I have tried to get her into holding the key until the engine starts, but it still is slow to start with the same conditions.

I doubt it's the battery but I'll look into it further

Might think about load testing the battery to see if it's on the way out.

Hot shutdown? Overfilled gas tank in a hot climate? Vapour lock? Bad gasoline? Leaky Injector? I would have the fuel rail tested to see that its maintaining pressure. Check the oil and see if it has a "gasoline" odour. BTW, The car has ECU controlled start and requires the key is held in start position for about 1/2 > 1 second.

It is NORMAL for car to show "COLD" blue light at cold start when not warmed up. Please Read your owners manual

I randomly get it on my automatic, it would try to start and it seems longer than usual so i turn the key off to retry again and it starts right up. Usually my yaris starts up in 2 shots thats it, its quick to start. But the delayed starts happened about 3 or 4 times so far i have 66k miles and i do all oil changes and such on my car on my own
