Summer blend must be here: averaging 44.4 mpg on current tank (1/3 of a tank so far)
To be fair, I've driving like an old grandma, but I like these numbers. Last full tank was 41.x, I believe.

Does anyone with an automatic get anywhere near this?

You can get those numbers with a automatic if you dont go above the speed limit. If you drive 75-80mph like most people then your mpg will start to drop. The final drive on the 4 speed auto isnt geared as high as the 5 speed manual so your going to be running a higher rpm range which is less fuel efficient.

Don't pamper the auto sedan that much . Still get 39+ with warmer weather and the summer blend .

My highway only fuel economy is 43+ (if I reset my scan gauge the second I hit the on ramp). I think I just sit at a lot of red lights. I still can't get more than 33-36 on a tank. I once had my car up to 80mph... once... in the 9 months I've owned it. I can't imagine driving it that speed for any amount of time, it sounded like it was about to blow apart. |

This might be a reflection on how well your car was cared for before you owned it. I've had my Yaris at 80 (on the part of Interstate 10 in Texas that has an 80 MPH limit) at a plus 200,000 mile point and it ran quite well.

It's revving over 3000 RPM at that speed and it's a Toyota 4 cylinder. It ain't gonna be quiet.

It didn't seem loud to me. Buildings are few and far between and when one sees one, it isn't tall....and there aren't any canyons nearby -- given both, there really isn't anything much for sound to reflect off of. It certainly isn't like a Lexus re quietness (which wouldn't be my cup of tea), but it certainly didn't sound as if it was about to fall apart.

Is this why the price of gas dropped a little?

I'm not talking about exhaust noise, I'm talking about noise from the engine itself that you would hear through the firewall. It's the same noise it makes when it revs over 3k while warming up. |
