(Help) Me Jealous? Friend buys 2010 Yaris.

It's time for a *MAD DOG* confessional. I have a workmate who I’ve convinced to buy a Yaris. He's trading in his POS late 80's-early 90's Suzuki 4x4 to get a Yaris. It's a clunker that barely runs.

I'm a little jealous. He's getting a 2010 Yaris for.........

$15,990 AUD drive away

Ok it's a manual and I don't like driving manual. But it comes with fixed priced scheduled servicing, only $130 a service for every 10,000km. He gets a 6 year warranty, I got 3 years. He's getting a 5 door for the 3 door price. Free genuine floor mats.

Sure he's getting the 1.3 Litre engine, but to be honest the difference between both is negligible, my wife has a 1.3 Litre Yaris and I have the 1.5 Litre. He's only getting two airbags, I have the whole set of 7. Is it wrong to be jealous?

I know my car is better than his as I have 1.5 Litre (80kw), YRX Body kit, Blutooth Radio, 7 Airbags, better trim, map pockets, front passenger under seat tray, cruise control (aftermarket), 4 speakers, tilt and telescopic steering column, fog lights and Audio controls on a leather steering wheel.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad for him, but it's making me think I should get a new 2010 Yaris when I have a perfectly good 2007 Yaris that's only done 35,000km.

Thoughts, comments people?

You should be jealous! But not jealous enough to sell your car to get a newer one.

You know the minute you drive the car off the lot, someone else is getting a newer car than yours.

Same thing with computers, phones, whatever. Enjoy your car and don't feel bad. you probably owe less money on your loan than he does on his right now, so there you go, you're ahead.

People always want the "new".

Cherish the old. I happen to think the older yaris' look better than the new yaris' with the front bumper and headlights.... I like the rounder look of the old yaris better for sure.

Hmmm I'm not sure how much I owe on my Yaris. I just keep paying cause I know the loan was 4/5 years and i've only had it since Dec 07.

It is cheap and 5 door. But my car is auto (I think it's a further $3,500 option) has a NST CR Lite Crank Pulley installed on it, Cruise Control (aftermarket-love it) and a Trombe Stebel 139dB twin air horns!

You are right too. The 07 Yaris YRX looks much better, it does not have that stupid grin the 10 does. Don't get me wrong I'm jealous of my friend, but i'd rather keep my car than have his as it is (manual).

But the 10 has a few things mine does not have, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, 6 year warranty and fixed priced servicing ($130 a service). It would be nice to just finish the loan and own a car for a few years without having to pay $600+ a month in repayments.

''' Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, 6 year warranty'''
The 1st 2 items are only reasons to have the 3rd item.....simple is better.

My Black Betty is 3 yo this week with 87,000+ miles, and it will be time for plugs soon...otherwise how many people actually had to use the warranty? Newness is off now, no more being anal about Betty, it's enjoyment time!

Hey there, don't be too upset...

I just bought the same thing but my local dealer was having a sale & I got 5 door 1.3L hatch manual for 15990 + tint $280; they threw in reverse sensors and mats. I got free full comprehensive ins for the first yr because i financed it & i get the 6 yrs roadside assistance, 6yr warranty & 6 yr fixed price servicing (but its $130 for the first 3 years and then $199 for the last 3 yrs)....and i got it in ink. And thats the drive-away price.

We looked at second hand and it seemed we were getting a effing great deal since on the website it said rrp was 16440 then it's 20,000 with all the on road costs. So I reckon i got a great deal vs buying second hand. But then I was also looking at a new Getz for $12,000.

Can't wait to pick it up in the next week.

:)

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum. I'm glad I still have my 07.

I had a 1981 Toyo Starlet that had a 1.3L engine in it with a 5-speed manual. That little sucker got 52mpg. I always wondered why they stopped making that car. We sure need mileage like that now. Sorry if this was a little off-topic.

Toyota got sick of everyone stuffing a rotary engine in them.

Ah... I owned mine in 1982 and I loved rarely buying gas...even though it was fairly cheap then.
