http://www.metrompg.com/posts/air-filter-part-2.htm "Once again, there's no practical difference between the paper and K&N filter - the difference between their averages (.50 km/gal) is smaller than the variation within the set of averaged K&N runs (.65 km/gal). This time, even the one-off "No filter" run landed in the middle of the results." |

It could be true. It might have better responsiveness, I was just asking for some kind of proof since every mod has a well known placebo affect. The mpg thing has been proven time and time again on the internet, though.
I'm gonna let this one die. Its a good product and Garm is a good vendor. Just don't expect things the manufacturer doesn't even claim will happen. |

I got one of these about 3 months ago. It sounds a little better but I haven't noticed any MPG improvement. I bought it because of the fact that it's washable and will save me money in the long run, plus I don't have to worry about filter oil supposedly messing with my MAF sensor.

I just picked up one of these. Good price and I think I'm getting a little old for that huge intake Honk on a daily basis.. and its alot cheaper than the whole intake system.

When I go to the AFE website it shows part # 30-10150. Is this right? It lists it as a "Scion xD 1.8L" filter. Maybe they use the same filter? Anyone know? EDIT: I just crossed referenced the K&N filter #'s and they show the same part # for the Yaris and xD. So I'll assume that the AFE's are shared as well. Somone can still chime in and verify though. Whether you get the K&N or AFE, just get rid of the stock paper filter if you are retaining the stock air box.

Wait...just realized this is not the Pro-Dry, but the oiled filter...right? Darn it...I want it in the dry version. AFE's site doesn't show a dry one though.

^ yeah but they appear to be two different part numbers. I'm betting the oiled one comes pre-oiled, which means you're kind of committed to it being that way. I think?
I actually think I have the 31-10150, the dry one in stock. I'll check at my shop.

I have been runnnig K&N oiled filters for years without a single problem
I have to think that all the horror stories you hear about oiled filters stem fom useres who clean and then, over oil the fillter. Fact is, it's really hard to over oil one if you can follow very simple directions and have a rudimentary semblance of common sense. I'n sure the AFE filters are much the same. |
