Check Engine and Traction Control Light On

Hey Yaris community,

I just recently installed an aftermarket air filter into my Yaris. It runs wonderful but I have a little issue; the traction control and check engine lights are on. The car runs fine (only issue is I cant depress the gas too far down, if i do it seems as if the car isnt receiving the throttle).

I've checked for holes or cracks in my installation but everything seems sealed, I even electrical taped it to be sure.

Note: I am using the factor air intake hose with the breather attached. I tried connecting an aftermarket breather but after starting the car, it rattles and the entire engine shakes, then it shuts off. Any help is appreciated!

I took the factory airbox out, only thing I left was the hose because the car needs a direct breathing source apparently.

lol and lol......

i need to have the MAF sensor. not overly difficult to make a mounting bracket for it on a custom intake but it has to be there. that is the reason for your issue.

as for a direct breathing source? what does that mean?

Oh no, the MAF sensor is still there man, the new filter has a slot for it. All i removed was the clunky plastic box.

np, i could see if u ran the car without the MAF hooked up the car would go into basically a "safe" mode cycle and throw a code (display check engine and trac) but one would think when its hooked up again it would at least get out of the safe cycle.

unplug the battery and while the battery is unplugged also:
unplug the MAF
then reconnect the MAF
then plug the battery back in.
**this will ensure u leave the battery unplugged for enough time (i believe it needs at least 90 seconds) and it will make sure the MAF was propperly plugged in.

The site isn't allowing me to track my sent messages YarisRS, so i'm going to post it here and you might also have a duplicate message. Here are some pictures I took earlier on break:

Tried that yesterday and it did, but after 40 or so minutes of driving, it came back on again.

no chance this new filter was one that you have to oil, and by chance you oiled too much and it covered the MAF sensor is there? otherwise maybe the MAF got bumped when swapping and needs to be replaced?

Can you put the factory air box back in and see what happens? All the electrical tape has me curious. Why is all the tape on there? And yes, the MAF could be dirty from a over-oiled filter. Or maybe that MAF pipe is the wrong diameter. Compare the diameter to the stock tube. They need to be the same! If it's bigger, the MAF will not read correctly.
