konig 17x7 v-racing, worth the work?
was just handed a free to me set of 4 konig v-racing 17x7 wheels, 40mm offset, 4x100... with a junk set of tires. i like the look and layout, but the bad is:
a few small bends. one maybe an inch of the bead is flared out, the other a small bend on the outside of the same form. 3 tires still have pressure from a year ago, the one with the bent bead has lost air. im comfortable smacking the bead back in place. i am familiar with aluminum and am not worried about it. the surface of 2 wheels is good enough, these have a polished lip that is rather coroded, 15 mins with a scotch-brite didn't do what i hoped it would. anyone had good results resurfacing alum wheels? i was thinking bead blasting, painting, and clear-coating, then hoping for a good deal on tires? 15lbs seems reasonable for 17" wheels... am i going to regret this performance wise? 205/40/17 is what the previous owner used on a saturn, the sizing seems approriate for the yaris? or are 45 series more correct? im open to opinions, many say not to bend aluminum wheels, but for free, i'll smack it with a hammer and a chunck of wood... it's not load bearing, and i don't expect to remove a chunk of the wheel doing this... |

stamped on the wheel is via 690kg
i assumed 690 is 6.9kg=15.22lbs. i expect you're right, that was wishful thinking... whats the 690kg then? |

690 is... well, 690. x 2.2 = 1518 pounds. Castrex is correct on this one, I think.

Imo, fixing the rims will cost about the same, if not more than a new set.

well i was afraid of that. the car is pokey as it is. cost would be considerably less than buying new... i work in automotive industry and have access to a bead blaster, and a powdercoat oven, and employee priced wheel paint rattle cans. the weight is the only thing that scares me, unfortunately i guess i'll "go fish". thanks guys!

I'd say try to sell them on Craigslist for $100 OBO and see what happens.
I wouldn't have them fixed or put them on a Yaris, those are some heavy wheels. |
