Exclamation Dash lights won't work after installing new head unit?

I just finished installing a new head unit in my 08 Yaris Sedan, and now the dash lights won't come on. Does anyone know if those lights are even connected to the radio? I wouldn't think that they would be. The box where the fuel gage and clock are still works but the rest of the dash panel is not working at all.

Not very helpful, but I just installed head unit yesterday too... Orange wire on the metra harness, into my new h/u, and my lights work all around...

Out of curiosity, have you checked the fuses first?

I had a friend do the wires for me and he told me that he connected the two orange wires (one from each connection) to the one wire to the radio harness. I'm guessing that the one that the directions clearly states do not use, is some type of negitive wire or ground. By hooking them together I'm sure that it has shorted out and blew a fuse. However being a work right now I can not confirm this. I plan to remove the radio, cut that extra wire and cap it off and check the fuse. I hope it is as easy as that..

Two orange wires? Where did he find those? Did he cut your factory harness?

The harness that I bought for the car had two seperate connections. the big one had a orange and white wire and the small one had a orange and black wire, he said he thought they where both illumanation wires and put them together.

Here is the instructions that came with the wire harness.

Sound like the head unit is currently wired to dim your dash lights. That is not going to work. You will need to pop it back out and splice them back together. He probably didn't know yarii very well.

The orange/black is in a position that is not used on the Yaris radio, so it shouldn't be connected to anything.

Check the MET and PANEL1 fuses in the fuse panel under the bottom of the left side of the dash.

Yeah but if I remember correctly (and u can look this up on crutchfield probably) but orange in the (standard harness) is for dash dim. Could be wrong, but it is probably what the guy was thinking when he did it.

The other orange is the illumination input to the radio, which tells it to dim when the headlights are on.
