Clutch question
I was hoping to get some insight from people who have more experience with manual gearboxes than me.
While on a small road trip, I had a sudden rush of crap to the brain while going up a moderate hill and I didn't release the clutch all the way after shifting for around 5 or 8 seconds. Before the crap cleared, I gave it more throttle a couple times. Not close to full throttle, but a noticeable increase. On the way back home, I noticed that the clutch engagement felt off, and I couldn't get power down in the same way. After a few days of nursing the clutch, it now feels like it did before my mistake. Is this as simple as a glazed clutch, or is the clutch returning to normal a sign that it is about to fall off a cliff? |

I would guess you might have some glaze built up - but your clutch might be nearing the end of its life. My clutch had similar symptoms from long periods crawling in traffic towards the end of its life. I'd monitor it.
The last few thousand miles I put on my original clutch you could tell it wasn't grabbing properly if you were putting your foot down a bit in 3rd gear.

It has been just over 1K miles of driving since then, and it feels like the clutch has gone back to normal.
I had felt an issue when trying to release the clutch into 2nd, and when under a good load in 4th. All of that is gone now. |

I replaced my clutch at around 130K miles - it was pooched. Although my clutch got some abuse because two women drivers were let loose on my car before I owned it and I drove it when I was a n00b and I smoked the clutch a few times. It probably is starting to wear out.

I'll keep tabs on it. I learned how to drive manual with this car, so I wasn't doing the clutch any favors back then. Thank you!
