Tired of poor gas mileage & buying premium gas.

OK, right now I'm driving a 2004 Dodge SRT-4. The car is a blast to drive and accelerates like a beast, but gas mileage is terrible and the car will only take 93 octane. I'm gonna test drive a Yaris soon, I think I like the liftback best.

I know the Yaris is gonna be MUCH slower than what I drive now, but is it still adequate for highway driving? Gas mileage is my big concern lately, since gas will probably be $4 a gallon soon.

hey, i was in a similar boat. Last year i bought a new 2005 saab 9-2x aero. 230 hp, all wheel drive... it was my 3rd saab and i loved it. but like you, it had to take in premium gas and even when driving it like an old lady, i could only manage to get about 23mpg. it got to the point, where i was driving it sooo slow just to save gas, it was pointless to have a fast car.

so i just traded it in for a 5speed yaris. i was actually surprised. i mean, its not a fast car, but its not unbearably slow either. i have no problem on big hills, merging on the highway, etc.. things i thought would totally suck...

keep your expectations in check. you are not buying a performance car, you are buying a fuel efficent econocar, that will save you a ton on gas :)
that being said, i bet you will be pleasantly surprised once you drive it.

I drive about 40 miles each way to work including some very steep grades.

I have owned several sports cars and the powerful Durango.

I find the Yaris HB to be plenty peppy and fun to drive even with the automatic. It won't make your head whip back when you stomp on the gas but it sure is fun to fill up for $25.

The most disgusting thing is that it is very possible that we will be saying "it sure is fun to fill up for 40-50 bucks" by next summer...

it should already cost you 30+ to fill up seeing as it is about 3$ a gallon and your car takes 11.1 gallons so that 33$

here in texas gas is about $2.80/gallon (not imperial, you metric hoes ), and I've never been able to fill up more than 10.4 gallons..so that's about $29.12.

Nevermind gas prices.. even with a lambo you're going to be stuck going as fast as all the surrounding traffic... I'm not sure about everyone else, but it seems like our rush hour runs longer each day...

I have a pretty fast car, its good on gas for the size of the car,
but using premium is getting expensive. Im getting a yaris if it is
slow, but Im sure it has enough power. Im going to drive one in
a day or so.

Get the manual, its better than the auto. That said, the Yaris has an electronic control throttle (ECT) so don't expect too much out of it.

There's nothing wrong with the Auto :D Mines doing just fine and really no issues on the highway or regular traffic.
I had to take the beast out tonight just to get my hp fix, I should be good for another week now.

Gas in Collingwood right now is 98 cents.

Im going to Newmarket/Richmond HIll tomrrow, so called my buddy down there to have him tell me what gas price are since its ALWAYS cheaper in that area, ESP around yonge street.

Yup, sure enuff, gas is 88 cents! FUCKING RIGHT!

And re: the question at hand, I have no problems passing, getting up to speed, going up hills, no worries about any of that. No concerns. I drive a 5 speed.

Love this car. It does everythign I need it to, and well!
