It just helps with the throttle lag is what most people say, it like controls how big the throttle is already open in different modes.

Im pretty sure you don't actually "gain" any hp power if that what you mean.

wow price is just getting better..does it come with the cancel reverse wire by the way..i might just take this off ur hand if ur doing it thru micro image..i dont use paypal.

You can probably do the install yourself. The only tricky part deals with taking the harness off from the pedal. Once you get that done, everything else is cake:

Instructions are with the unit.
it is 95% plug and play if you want to use the reverse cut out .
or 100% plug and play if you don't use the reverse cut out .
