lol well thanks... though I consider geek to be a badge of honor really I usually change my wallpaper every 1-2 weeks. Sometimes car related, sometimes anime related, sometimes abstract, but this last time my inner trekker came out

Fine with me! The more Microsoft rips from the Apple UI experience, the happier I am.

yeah it takes some getting used to, switching between good ol' Windows and OSX or Linux... Then again I remember the frustration of dealing with Vista's "enhancements" compared to XP... I say we all go back to DOS

Tell me about it. All of my houses machines at OSX or Linux, with the exception of my work machine which runs Vista, and then I spend about half of my day in SSH sessions to a variety of servers with everything from Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, etc) to Unix (FreeBSD, usually) and Solaris.

Sometimes I love working for a startup, but then sometimes I type ifconfig in a DOS term and get mad that it doesn't work like it does everywhere else ;)

I've been running it in Parallels for a while now with 1 processor and 1G of RAM assigned to it, and it's been pretty stable for me, I may actually be putting it on my Boot Camp partition when rc2 comes out (July, I think, is the target date for that).

and for the minimum system requirements (I think someone asked):

* 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
* 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of avaiable disk space (64-bit)
* DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

And lastly, if you wanted to upgrade directly from WinXP to Win7, you're SOL

Not sure exactly but they've really cut out the bloat of Vista, and a lot of people are running it quite nicely on basic netbooks, so that's encouraging to see!

Do you know if I can install it over XP without having to reinstal software "below" it?

You'd be surprised how many people actually believe I'm running 95... all my toolbars are set to be windows classic style so it's pretty convincing at first glance
