squeaky stick

No sure really what to do about this. Its probably just something a lil grease could fix but I wasn't sure. So for about 2 weeks I've been hearing this squeak when I shift. I couldn't tell if it was the clutch peddle or something under the hood. Finally yesterday I was sitting at a red light and started playing around with the gears. And noticed the noise. It squeaks when I put a lil lateral pressure on the stick wile shifting up or down. Is this an indication of something more serious or just that it needs some grease to lube it up.

Sorry if this had been asked already. And any feedback would help.

Ty

it's not a clutch noise? generally the squeak is from a dried out pivot point for the clutch fork.

have you been "banging those gears" a lot? you may be due for a gear oil change

Lol I do shift in the higher rpms often. But yeah its not the clutch for it makes no noise when depressing the peddle. Just when the stick is moved. Its only if I "drag" the stick along the boundaries of the gear.

Ill try changing the oil and see if that helps. Diy forum here I come.

should take a 15/16" socket and about 10 mins of time. DO NOT USE MOBIL1 SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL. i suggest taking the car for a 20 minute spin first to get the oil warm. you'll get more out of the diff that way :)

no...I don't think it needs gear oil changing. Mine squeaks, but it doesn't bother me. I've been trying to search for a particular thread that addresses this issue by lubing some part on the tranny.

Can't find it so far, it's buried under mountains of threads asking about this stupid squeak. ...should have been Stickied.

EDIT:

Found it!
