NAV SYSTEM ANTENA SIGNAL BLOCKED BY TINT ON WINDSHIELD
Hey all. I have a Pioneer Avic D3, and when I had it installed back in 2007, the guy placed the GPS antena inside the car. Right on top of the dashboard. I've recently tinted my windshield and just discovered the hard way, that the tint actually blocks the GPS Satellite signal. Now, I have to somehow place my antenna outside the car in order to get signal. My question now is. Are there any ideas on how to do it, without making a mess? All suggestions are welcome!

Go under the hood through the large bushing behind the fuse panel, and then mount it to the bottom of the plastic cowling at the base of the windshield. |

Change your tint to something that is non-metallic, or you can cut a small corner off the top or bottom of your windscreen tint to allow your GPS antenna to peek through. If your GPS supports an auxiliary connector for an external antenna, you can run a wire through your firewall and to the outside.

the glass should not block the signal enough to cause issues..

It actually does. I check the signal strengh and it's one bar and it shows that I'm in streets that I,m not even at. The minute I place the antena out of the window, everything works 100%

Sounds like you have all the necessary bits, well the best solution would be to go back to the guy who installed it back in 2007 and get him to install the antenna properly outside of the car. Unless you're intending to DIY.

I don't trust the guy. He is a pig. That was the first and only time that he'll ever touch my car.

Despising the fact that he's a little too far from me, that might be my best option. At least I know that I can trust him with my ride. I'll send him a text.

I spoke to a friend that I met thanks to TAMAGO. He works for the Toyota of Hollywood, FL and he'll do it for me tomorrow morning. I’ll keep you posted as far as how it came out.
