Statistically, have ABS brakes reduce the accident rate?

They reduce pedestrian fatalities, but increase off-road fatal crashes. Also noted was a reduction in collisions with other vehicles. The study noted that the combination of ABS and ESC reduces a large portion of all crash types. However, we may never know the true impact of ESC alone--since most cars with ESC have ABS.
