2009 sedan rear deck porting

anyone try to port the rear deck in the sedan so theres better airflow from the trunk from the subwoofers? i have 2 10inch subwoofers (kicket comp 10s )in a sealed box i listen to heavy/death metal so im emphasizing this on sound quality. still running factory speakers, waiting for a friend to get me a good deal on 2011 pioneer lineup. so has anyone ported the rear deck (cut a hole in the middle or somewhere) and what were your results?

I've thought the same thing. Since I dont use rear speaker (sedan) I thought about removing them for porting, but never have done it. I'd like to make a port in the center, but.....same thing

I removed my 6x9's and you can't tell the difference with a good set-up in your front end.

I'm running a pair of 12 inch CVR's in a sealed box and you can most def feel the air comming in from them 6x9 holes.

You mean you cant tell the difference in the bass with the 6x9 removed? Or you dont miss the 6x9 with good speakers up front?

Don't miss the 6x9's.

Some ideas i had if i felt i needed to " fill in " the rear of the car was to put maybe an 8 inch sub in that huge area of plastic that sits right under the rear bench seat, or what i'm currently working on is getting and putting some Horn Tweeters in the C- Pillars

Something else i considered was going to a pull and pay yard and getting a back seat and running ports through it, but i was thinking more of a slot port design ?

Hi,

Holes in the rear deck (as large as practicable) would have some positive effect.. However, a sub in the sedan's trunk will always perform worse than, say a pair of firee-air subs in the rear deck

I am wondering what is your budget for a head unit and what amps and speakers do you use in your system?

current deck is a sony cdx gt-200, 2 kicker comps in sealed box with mtx tc300.1 amp. 300 watts rms 2ohm (subs have been wired for 2ohm), im gonna fill the box with polyfil stuffing.

running stock speakers for now

rear speakers will be

Pioneer TS-d6902 , and fronts will be ts-d1602r. ( my friend gets huge discounts with pioneer) they will be running off the head unit. (no 4 channel amp)

Have you checked the RMS ratings on the aftermarket 6x9s and your cd deck ?

I got rid of my 6x9s almost from day 1, at some point used the opening to let the bass into cabin, but noticed that road noise from the trunk goes through, so now that my bass is in front, I'm going to seal the trunk from the cabin.

I don't see a need for speakers in the rear, besides providing passengers a closer source of music,

I would say... try and test, what ever makes you happy, that's your best choice.

That is an irresponsible blanket statement to say the least. This type of statement is untrue given so many variables around a system. I'll give three examples of world championship type builds I've auditioned within the last 6 months that exemplify the antithesis of what Tolmach is claiming:

-Scott Buwalda's current iteration of his G35 which uses four I6SWs in a bandpass enclosure

-Bill Pleasant's Altima which uses two RF 15s in sealed pods on either side of the trunk

-Dave Edward's Camry with uses two 12" test mule speakers IB'd

All of them sound unique yet have great low end extension. The idea that the ONLY way to sound good or sound "the best" in any vehicle let alone ours is to use woofers in a free air (infinite baffle) configuration is preposterous. All three are championship vehicles. The claim that only IB/free air woofers sound the best or that they always sound better than a trunk mounted setup whether that be sealed, vented, or bandpass enclosures is bunk.

Just for you information guys, remember I mention above that I was going to seal the trunk from the cabin, well I'm in that process and I found out that it reduces cabin noise by more than 3db at highway speeds, that's a lot. So that proves that talking the rear speakers out will let the BASS from your sub-woofer box go through the cabin with no problem.
