Mk1 head unit/info panel

First post and its a question.

Been doing some research after purchasing a yaris t sport yesterday really great car all by it a slightly slipping clutch. Anyway. Im after changing my head unit to a aftermarket one. I intend to get the fascia panel. But im unsure what happens to the top info panel does it just stay there with all the buttons not working as that would do my head in.

Any info or advice would be much appreciated thanks

I'd say remove it and make it a solid panel and use that space for a magnetic cell phone mount
