The thread with the single, hidden sub over spare tire?

A couple of weeks ago a member here posted a really nice sub mount he did. He mounted a single large subwoofer over the spare tire. I think he constructed a new cover (the large rectangle cover that goes over the tire to hide it and forms the surface of the trunk / hatch) that had a hole in it the size of the sub. It was a really clean and nice looking install.

If you're the one who posted that thread or if anyone has pics. or the thread saved, can you please post it again?

Thanks.

Ok, I found it. It has two subs as well, not one:

I want mine that clean, but with one 12" sub instead of two 10"-ers. I wish there was a more detailed guide on how to do this install. I've never made any sub enclosure.

I'll clarify that he had to remove his spare to do that. Just no space otherwise.

Thanks guys.

firemachine, you helped Boydstir with that install? Would one of those shallow mount subs. fit w/o having to remove the spare tire?

TinyGiant, sorry, but I was referring to the one done by Boydstir / firemachine69. I saw the one you reposted, but the one by Boydstir is the one I remembered.

Lift up the cover and have a look for yourself. There's maybe an inch of spare space. It's a well-used technique (removing the spare and carrying a can of fix-a-flat, and a CAA/AAA membership card), but you can figure out the downside of it.

Just an FYI, I've a couple ideas on how to make a version of the single sub box that duffman made able to utilize the spare tire bolt down for more resonance and still be removable for tire access. I'll keep you posted, and I may be posting for feedback.

I thought that there would be space for at least a 10" shallow mount sub w/o having to remove the tire. Looks like the sub could "fit" in / over the indented / center part of the tire.

they make woofer boxes that fit in the spare tire too.. you might consider that if you are worried about a flat

Cool. Mind posting a link to one? What size sub would fit in one of these boxes? Also, can this type of box be installed the way firemachine and you (TinyGiant) installed your subs? I really just want a single 12" sub (shallow mount if it'll let it fit w/o having to remove the spare tire).

That's interesting. I want a cover like boydstir's that has the hole for the sub that the sub rests in. It would sit over the tire like this one. I'm looking at this slim 12" Alpine sub at Crutchfield. Need to find someone that knows how to work with fiberglass and has made sub enclosures before.
