End of the Yaris

What are your thoughts on the end of the Yaris announced last year; what model do you consider the best model year ?

I'm not in the market for a new car, but I was a bit bummed that the Toyota-made Yaris is no longer available in the U.S. I owned a 2012 Yaris and now own a 2017 Yaris, and I like them both a lot. I dig the design of the Yaris available in Europe, but I don't think that will be available in the U.S. anytime soon (if ever)?

As stated in the last paragraph of that article, we already got it. Failed miserably and was dropped. Can't see them trying to pull that one on us again.

But this time it is Mazda who is making their latest-gen Mazda2 from the TNG Yaris platform in partnership with Toyota, unlike when Toyota was rebadging a last-gen Mazda2 with slight cosmetic changes as a Yaris here in the USA. Still, it is doubtful that this new-gen Mazda2 built from the TNGA Yaris platform will ever reach the USA, as Mazda stopped selling the Mazda2 here some time ago. The U.S. (& Canada) will likely remain a wasteland for the subcompact segment.

And yeah, it sucks that the authentic Toyota designed/built Yaris hatch was dropped in the USA in 2018 (& Canada later). I would have loved to buy the new TNGA Yaris hatch or Yaris Cross if it was sold here.

I do sort of like the new 2022 Hyundai Kona N-Line trim though. Definitely more of a hatchback than a crossover & getting rid of the plastic cladding worked wonders for its styling/looks (though the split rear lights still look somewhat odd to me). It also uses a regular 7-speed DCT automatic instead of a crappy CVT. I'm going to go test drive one in the near future & see how it looks & feels in-person. I plan to sell my 2020 Corolla & get something else in 2022 - preferably a small crossover or hatchback. My 2020 Corolla SE sedan 6-MT has been pretty "meh" (IMO). I give it a 7/10 max, compared to my 2015 Yaris SE hatch 5-MT which I rate as a solid 9/10.

2022 Hyundai Kona N-Line Trim:

I've never heard of the Kona until now; thanks for posting. I think that's a good looking vehicle.

I really like the kona. We have a tuscon but I liked the look of the Kona more, it just wasn't big enough for what we needed.

Drove the Kona as a rental for several weeks. Unlike the Yaris, nothing to love here. Clearly a mediocre econobox hatchback with few redeeming qualities...IMHO.

that's a bummer. great styling on the car, shame it doesn't drive as good as it looks.

Once owned a 2nd-gen. The ample dashboard storage compartments were on an unimaginable level. Very impressive.

I don't like Mazda's; they have too many flaws.
