How long are you planning on keeping your Yaris?

Hi Yarisworlders. I have a 2009 Yaris. I love this little spartan, bare-bones car, but I've seen a lot of people come and go on this forum over the years. It's the nature of things, I know. People move on to different driving experiences. But I'd be happy and content to keep driving my Yaris for as long as it runs, and knowing how reliable this car is God only knows how long it'll last. I'm hoping to drive my little Yaris for another 20 years. How long are you going to keep your Yaris?

Personally my '06 is already 16 years old and i bought it the first days of 2022 with 215k Km on it. I like the car, it does the job i want it to do, take me to places at low cost, the engine is impossible to kill, there are millions of second-hand parts available.

I think I'm going to keep it for at least 10 years. I am only thinking of installing a 2-din multimedia screen just to stream spotify and it would be a 10/10 for my use case.

Until it disintegrates from rust, which will be a long time cause I undercoat it every fall and keep it as clean as possible in the winter.
Parts are plentiful and cheap and will be for another 30+ years. These cars are TOUGH and quite fun to rip around in after some suspension goodies.

I may retire it from daily driver duty in a few years and pick up a clean final year 2019 3rd gen Yaris(2018 in US) so I can do whatever I want with my current 2014, modifications wise.

Mine is 16 years old. I've been driving it since 2011. I really don't want to say goodbye to it. I think I'd only be jinxing myself given its never really let me down and its very repairable. Given we're probably headed into the next great depression I know I will be able to keep this car running even if I fall on hard times. I think of The Grapes of Wrath and how you want a car you could hop in with all you possessions and drive west if you had too.

I love my 2017 with a stick. I'm saddened by the loss of the Yaris and other "basic," low cost cars. I just don't have much confidence in any new low-cost car right now. I wish the Yaris Cross would come to the U.S., but I don't think it will.

wife bought it new and fell in love with it, me i was skeptical for a long time, knowing now that its one of only a handfull of the 07 5drs in the US..and how much ive fallen for it, its family and ill fix and repair it as long as i live, TBH something SERIOUS would have to happen to it for us to let it go and i mean something i cant cut and weld to fix IE massive frame buckle from an impact

159k kilometers on the clock its still pretty new, heck the paint is barely showing its age with only a few spots on the roof and a small spot on the hood of clearcoat coming loose, its in suprisingly good condition, well not so suprising with the low miles but still it doesnt look like a 16 year old car by any standard

Bought my 2010 4 door hatch with a little over 7000 miles toyota certified used in late 2010. whoever traded it in early lost out big time in my opinion. Today I just turned 350.000 miles on the clock and this little tank still has the original clutch! The 5 speed is still smooth and the engine purrs like new. These are the only big things i've replaced so far......1 starter last month (finally!), 3 wheel bearings...the passenger side rear is still the original, 1 alternator, and a set of the rear hatch struts. Of course the usual wear items like brake rotors and tires numerous times. The rear brake shoes are still original. oil gets changed with mobil 1 every 3500 miles and I run redline synthetic in the manual trans. Pretty severe winter conditions up here in northern NY by the canadian border and lots of salt. It gets hosed down with fluid film every fall. Starting to get some rot in those pockets at the front of the rear control arms like many other people. These cars are the perfect combination of reliable elements in one package. I often got made fun of at work for getting a "clown car" but in the past 12 years everyone else has been through at least 2-3 cars and the yaris is still trucking. They're not laughing anymore....haha. That's my rant in favor of the Yaris! All the best to everyone out there in Yaris land!

Bought my 2008 new in, well, 2008. it's been good, except for the paint. Clear coat failure like most others i see on the road.

I have about 210,000 miles. Still averaging about mid 30s in MPG. Still on original, just about everything, including the brakes!

I've taken mine to autoX racing. Off road trails (some minor stuff). Daily driver. and even used it as a pick up truck!

Recently stuck some shelves in it. Two sets. Boxes were 80" long by about 25" by about 8"

I would own it til I die, but right now there's no space to keep cars. I sold off my beloved Jeep Cherokee to make room for the step kid's Honda Fit.

My wife wants me to get something more modern with power windows and better AC. So, the Yaris would be the one to go (I've tried getting HER to sell her car! LOL)

Bought mine new in 2008. Sold it last year due to it not ever being driven and I sometimes regret it. It was a great little car and I occasionally miss it and would love to have another one in the future when my kids are older and I don't need a bigger car.

Bought my 2010, 3dr HB, 5 spd in Sept 2010 as a leftover for $11,000 with 60 month 0% interest. I just turned 196,000 miles. Change oil and filter every 5000 miles with full synthetic. The only time it has let me down was over the summer when the crank position sensor failed. I have only replaced the exhaust gasket, alternator, rear hatch struts, and other normal wear items (brakes, tires, belt, and battery). I love driving the manual trans and will keep it as long as there is not a repair that is worth more than the car itself. Bill C

These things last forever. 2007 with 345k miles 1nzfe and auto transmission. Maintenance, one rear shock, and I just rebuilt the alternator yesterday. Best cars ever. THE most fun to keep too

I like the car, maybe because it is my car but it looks nice. The paint held amazingly (I bought it new on August 2007) despite living in good sunny south Florida. Except for when people open doors and scratches yours, or the pebbles that hit the hood when driving.

It is a 2007, Sedan S with a manual transmission.

It has not required any major repairs, aside from replacing the transmission under warranty. When I bought it the dealership had a lifetime warranty on the power train (Autonation of Weston, formerly Maroone Toyota of Weston). It was making a noise when shifting from 2 to 3 or 1 to 2, don't remember, but I only paid $100 for that, at that time I also replaced the clutch.

Little by little I am doing more to it as a DIY. Right now I am sorting out the AC that for the first time since 2007 is not blowing cold air.

I do the oil changes at the dealership like clockwork (well once or twice exceeding miles or time by a bit), I don't do it myself as I want it to be recorded by Toyota just in case a warranty issue.

I have about 205k miles now on it.
