Plastic "Mud Flap(?)" in Front of Rear Tire?!?

Was coming home from school the other night, hit something in the road and suddenly heard a bad noise from driver's side rear tire. Pulled over and found that this small plastic piece at the forward edge of the rear wheel well had broke and was rubbing up against the tire.

My questions are, what does this piece actually do, and how much is a replacement (if it needs to be replaced)?

Here's a pic of the piece I am talking about, in the red oval...

I took pics of mine, half of it is still on the car and the other half is actually in the car (i kept it in case I could re-attach it somehow). Unfortunately, due to the extreme cold weather we had here in southcentral Texas last night, we lost power for over seven hours and I was unable to upload them to my computer. I will do so and post them later.

Cheers! M2

it's supposedly for aerodynamics, but not sure if it really does anything.

It just happened Tuesday night, so I've not had a chance to get by the dealer yet.

Plus, I prefer the insight and wisdom on this forum, and was hoping to get information here.

Cheers! M2

Naw, I just thought I'd start a thread first before bothering CTscott...if I don't get an answer in the next couple of days, I might just do that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Cheers! M2

OK, here are some close-ups of my broken whatever-it-is...

I still have no idea of what it is/does...

This piece is part of the splashguard that runs under the sides of the car. My 07 didn't come with it as I believe it was introduced on 08's and later and then not on all of those. It is a bolt/snap on piece that can be replaced. Try the wreckers.

Thanks, since we actually got snow here in San Antonio last night (I'll post pics later), I've not be able to get under my Yaris to see the extent of this piece. I am hoping it is a small part that can be easily replaced, but as for breakers I don't stand much of a chance of finding a wrecked Yaris around here. I'm better off locating one off this forum...

Cheers! M2

Toyota calls it a wheel house plate
looks like its a deflector or air dam of some sort

Thanks, I searched for that term on here and found a diagram that CTScott posted...

Part #65632-47030 is $23.89 + shipping at Toyota Parts Zone (looks like the Prius uses the same part), I'll have to see if Sparks or one of the other vendors on here can match or beat that!

Cheers! M2

The part number is 65631-52100 (right side) and 65632-52100 (left side). They list for about $30 each.

The 65632-47030 part number is just for the Prius.

Thanks for all the help, everyone; I've got a 'WTB' thread going in the Marketplace section of the forum to see if anyone has one for sale.

Cheers! M2

I heard it's a diffuser that helps with aerodynamics.
