Replacing most of the braking system...hints or suggestions

I am going to be replacing the front calipers, rotors, brake lines, rear drums, brake lines and pads all with new, upgraded items.

I know how to bleed the brakes, etc.....

Just want any suggestions on anything I need to be aware of before getting into it. I figure I can do it all in 6 hours (I like to go slow, have a coke or two and enjoy the time with the car).

I'm doing the same thing, I had hoped to be doing it this afternoon but the parts didn't get here in time.

I'd get the SS lines from Garm, as the StopTech's(Centric) SS lines I bought were wrong. I ordered a front and rear set, and they sent me two front sets, with front and rear part #. When I called to ask about returning one set for a rear set, they told me they've never made a rear set for the Yaris. I check with ST and Centric, and they both gave me the same lameass responce!

So if you ever order a 950.44508. You'll be getting fronts instead of rears.

I'm just getting started on my full out assault on the fools. I'll start with the BBB and go from there.

And if you've got a little extra money, one of these will really help. I've been using one for 20 years. Best $50. I've ever spent!

The SS lines are a good suggestion, (another PM to MI )

it sounds like you are taking most of the brake system apart, so why not replace the entire thing. Surely you can find replacement parts for the master cylinder and everything else from a camry in a junkyard somewhere.

My current plan is to do the following in the following order:
1) 1st work order: replace lines with SS and Motul 5.1 fluid - all at one time
2) 2nd work order: replace the rest (drums, shoes, pads, discs)

Other thoughts are appreciated,

If you're going to drain the old fluid I'd do the pads/rotors before re-filling the system...you'll save yourself from fighting the pistons on the fronts at least, and you won't have to bleed your lines again(or overflow the resevoir) after the change. New pad/shoe thickness will effect the amount of fluid you need.





I'll be doing it all in one shot, start to finish. I'm waiting on ATE super blue at the moment, should be here today or tomorrow...just in time for the weekend. :)

why? you changing parts that don't and might not need to be changed out? I can understand the pads and maybe the calipers if they are sticking. If not I would just Flush/refill the brake fluid. Well actually just bleed every wheel and than the tranny slave cylinder if you have a 5 speed manual, keep adding new fluid to the master resorvior untill you bleed out all or most of the old fluid.

I believe when things need changing, let's go ahead and refresh as much as possible the parts that are more bolt on than other wise.
