2017 Yaris official

http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases...ty-sense-c.htm

Same car with improvements.

Toyota Safety Sense™ C is designed to help address three key areas of driver assistance: preventing or mitigating frontal collisions, helping keep drivers within their lane, and to help enhance road safety during nighttime driving. Technologies include Toyota’s Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams. Yaris is the first entry subcompact in the segment to standardize these key safety features across all grades.

I might trade the 2016 for one.

bizarre that a pre-collision system which uses cameras as part of the detection mechanism is now included, but there's no backup camera offered which is now standard on virtually all 2016 and newer vehicles sold.

ahhh

found this on the nhtsa website

All new cars must include a backup camera by May 2018. That's the latest from the federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which recently announced the finalized regulation on backup cameras after years of back-and-forth.

My guess is they'd feel silly putting a back up camera on a car that is only slightly bigger than a Smart and maybe smaller than a trike

Either the now continued Yaris is a cheap test bed for a new 2018 model yet to be designed/identified, or they're going to keep the current Yaris into 2018. Indeed interesting.
