New Thule Rack for Hatchback
Anyone else have one of these? Wondering how much a wind fairing/deflector will help.

Too short for my tastes could only be used for skis or snowboards nothing heavy. I have seen VW rabbits with the post mounted from the window gap I wonder why they haven't tried that with the Yaris. I will one day crack down and do as Petesredyaris had done and install rails for a roof rack system... But this is just a joke, especially for the price, might as well do it right or not at all. Besides the is plenty of room in the car with two people for two boards a cooler and any other gear needed for a day on the slopes.

Here is my Thule Roof Rack with Yakima Basket, this kit can be extended to accommodate a kayak and large cargo boxes with the short roof adapter (thule part #477)

when you put on the basket did you have to shift it to one side so it would bolt on the front bar next to the fairing brackets? my basket is lightly to the right.... nothing noticeable to the average person..... hmm. btw Im very happy with the rack even though I found the whole installation to be a hassle... those handles that screw on are a bit flimsy :( I broke the tab that goes in that slot....

Yes the basket is a pain to get it on straight since its meant for a yakima rack. You may have the newer Thule Aero kit, since I thought is was fairly easy to install, but a pain to get lined up straight.

oh its real easy to install the rack... just had a bit of a problem with them not clamps down hard enough and couldnt tuck the handle good enough....
as far as the basket it was real easy to get on there... so easy it would worry me about someone taking it of.... I might get a simple padlock with a cable to at least deter anyone.

good job! i see the thule box, but is that a thule kit? if so, what size clips did you use(front and back) to make it work? i have a yakima rack(i too got mine secondhand) and i bought their extender for $10 on super-clearance! just trying to figure-out what size yakima clips i will need by comparing them to the thule clips(unlike thule, yakima DOES NOT recommend the extender kit on the 3-door yaris even though i've looked at both kits and they're identical!) so i can't look-up clip sizes on yakima's website. thanks!

^here's a pic of the rack in question on my wife's yaris(she's not a big fan of having a rack on her daily-driver - that's why i'm looking to place it on my 3-door). got the fork-mount bike carrier in the mail today and already took her bike to the shop to get a tune-up!

Gotta love the fork mount bike trays...... they are so easy and make the bike less heavy to get off the top of the car..... I use a bungee cord between the rear seat head rests to hold my wheel in place.... I must take pics :) I finally got my car washed today!

^yeah, i'm a big fan too. you do have to have some sort of rack(factory or aftermarket) to mount them and they're pretty pricey once you factor in the cost of the towers, bars, clips, and any accessory attachments you put on them, but i got most of the parts second-hand(ie. FREE). we used to have a trunk-mount, but i got tired of messing with straps and scratched my trunk/rear bumper pretty bad on the old car.
i forgot to mention - bike rack is a thule prologue fork-mount(#516). $80.96 SHIPPED from bikecarrierdirect.com it's lockable with the thule same-key sytem and i happened to have an extra lock cylinder from the 2-pack i bought for our thule cargo box. obviously, it's compatible with yakima bars! |

I have the same bike holder I enjoy it very much.... I know I spent way too much 500$ + on my rack and basket/bike holder but I have enjoyed it very much and I know it was worth it!
