There's a little white plastic wing nut looking thing on the
back of the Radiator at the bottom.

If I may ask, why are you already changing the coolant in an 2009 Yaris?

2 drain points: Radiator and back side of block.

Thanks for the reply. Where is it located on the back side of the block.
If I just drain the radiator alone. Is it OK?

You won't have completely drained and changed the coolant if you do that.

Why do you want to change the coolant on a new Yaris?

If you just drain the radiator you are probably getting only half the coolant as the other half is still in the engine.
Also curious why the need for a coolant change when the coolant from new should last at least till 50,000 , most people never change it till the car starts overheating at about 180,000 and a new radiator is required.

Is it just me or is it odd that three members have asked the same question but the OP still hasn't answered it? Hmmm....

If it's just a drain and refill (w/ a 50/50 mixture) draining just the radiator is okay. But soon as you start flushing the system you won't be able to get enough straight coolant in the system with just a radiator drain. And the block drain is roughly in the middle of the block...crack open the bolt and fluid will come out of what looks like a little faucet.

I agree - it's wayyy too soon to be changing your coolant. Unless you've thrown a turbo in your car running high boost and you want to put in better performing coolant, I'd just stay away from it until you need to get it taken care of.

Let's try again; why are you changing antifreeze on a brand new car?

Might be a troll under the bridge boys.......

Coolant on our vehicles are designed for 100k for the first change and 50k every change afterwards. You need to make sure you purchase toyota only coolant as it is specifically designed for our cars and radiators. You also need to premix it with a 50/50 of distilled water.

Draining from the peakcock valve on the radiator will only get approx half of the coolant out of the motor as some is going to be left in the hoses and engine block. Proper way to be using a coolant flush machine that gets all the coolant out and puts all new coolant in. Something that any service shop can do.

Just a FYI here. On my ECHO I used to change the coolant by using only the radiator drain. I measured the ammount that came out and it was what the book said was in there. Probably.....the Yaris is the same. In any event do not make a habit of letting others (especially the dealer!) work on your car. IQs have dropped sharply in the country in the paast few years. All they know is how the screw it up nowadays.

...provided that they have their tank full of pink fluid, otherwise they'll probably consider the *global* coolant as the only coolant you should use.

OT, but that reminds me of the three stages of men. Young men have a petcock. As time goes by, it turns into a draincock. (I suppose that could also be called a peacock. Think phonetically.) With old age, it becomes a stopcock.
