Why does 15000 service cost so much more than 5000 and 10000 mile service?
I have a 2008 Yaris. My 15000 mile service is coming up so I called Toyota Dealership to make an appointment. They told me it'd cost $330. I paid $70-$80 for my 5000 and 10000 mile service at the same place. I looked up the maintenance list online and it looks like they are checking the same things as 10k mile. What do they do that make it cost so much more? Is it necessary to get the service from Toyota dealership considering I'm going to sell my Yaris in a couple of months. Any suggestion on where else I can take it? Or is $300 a reasonable price? Thanks!

Don't take it to the dealer. Just do an oil change and check your air filters yourself.

When I took my car in for its 15,000 mile service, they quoted me a price of $200+ which included (I believe) brake cleaning, a new air filter. I asked the service adviser if this was service that Toyota recommended. He told me that it was "for our area." I gave permission for him to proceed. When I got home, I checked the maintenance manual. I could find no such recommendation.
The service adviser knew what I was asking. He essentially lied to me. I won't let that happen again. |

They charge a lot more for 15,000 miles so that they can steal more money off of you. Only the idiots pay that for the 15k service.
Don't you guys think it strange the one cannot reconcile the Yaris maintenence published in the manual to what the stealership tries to get us to pay for? Where is the honesty, and integrity Toyota?!? Toyotas may be the best, but their stealerships are no better then anyone elses, including GM's and Chrysler's. |

unless something is wrong with the car, all you need are oil changes. The whole point of owning a car like this is low tco.

I still cannot believe how US dealers are not able to stick to the maintenance schedule recommended by Toyota. Although, price do vary from City to City.. What you get for 30$ in suburbs might cost 70-80$ in larger cities. ie, NYC.

Hmm my shop only charges 79.95 for the 15k service
What we do for our 15k service which may not be completely what the dealer does is the following Replace engine oil and filter replace air filter top off fluids rotate and balance all 4 tires clean and treat battery terminals and then ofcourse all the maintanance inspections
