Packin' Up and Moving

I am still around...but my family and I are moving south, from Western
PA to St. Augustine, Florida.

Really looking forward to the move. My site is still up and functioning
but since I am not going to renew my sponsorship until I get settled
in, about 1st week of June or so, I didn't want any lapse in customer
service since my time online will be limited for the next few weeks.

Also, since I am not a paying vendor at the moment I want to abide
by forum rules and not attempt to sell anything in a thread or via PM.

If anyone needs me please send an e-mail to gary@yarisuniverse.com

Until then, I am just another Yaris owner on this forum.

You are going to love St Augustine! I gew up just north of there (Jax Beach) and we used to "road trip" to St A all the time (in a Pinto, anything over 20 miles is a road trip).

It is a great town, lots of history and great beaches. It can get crowded during the summer due to the tourists, but it is still a fun place. Get a bicycle, as it is the preferred way to get around.

Cheers! M2

My wife went to college there, it's a beautiful and very historic city. You'll enjoy it.

Great little city, i spent a few years there back in the 70's when my parents ran a farm on the southwest corner of Fla16 and I-95,its all shopping center now but i remember lot of fun times on the beaches and some of the great little bars downtown, and fun runs down A1A to Daytona Beach.

Flagler College? I wanted to go there, but it had a reputation as a party/surfer school and I didn't need any more distractions...

We might be down that way around Thanksgiving, my mom still lives in Jax and we are planning to go out and visit her for the holiday. We always take a trip to St A when we're in town.

Unfortunately, it won't be in the Yaris (we're flying)...

Cheers! M2

Yep, she graduated there in 1990, I believe. It was a much smaller school back then, and she had a full scholarship, so it was a no-brainer for her.

Downtown St Aug is great, esp. the historic area. I fell in love with the place.
I was only there once, when I was checking it out back in March.
We're actually going to live over near I-95 but still close enough to everything.

Good luck with the heat...

On the other hand, I for one would be curious to know if Western PA is as expensive as claimed. I keep hearing guys from the south and west complaining that the taxes around here are "hellish".

1990? Did ya marry a young 'un there, Gene? Or maybe it's the beard and hat; but I figured you to be closer to my age (46).

We use to cruise through Flagler College on occasion in the late 70s/early 80s; it is a beautiful school with a cool history behind it. and I wasn't aware that it had gotten larger.

The humidity, bugs and hurricanes kept me from ever moving back to Florida, but I do miss it. I have a lot of friends from high school who still live in the area, but we only get back every couple of years.

Cheers! M2

I don't know where you live currently but Allegheny County property taxes
are extremely high compared to other places even in PA

As for the heat...I don't have a problem with it. I don't mind 95 and high
humidity. It's shoveling snow and dealing with sub-freezing temperatures
for months on end that I hate.

Anyway, a big reason (besides my reg job) that we are moving is because
we have a deaf daughter and while the school here in Pittsburgh is very good,
the St Augustine school is considered the best---and biggest--in the country.

Lots of people in the St Augustine area know some sign language because
there is a big deaf population there.

Close, I'll be 42 this year, wife is about 2 years younger.

I just got an early start honing my "grumpy old bastard" skills... and going gray... and losing my hair...

What were we talking about again?

Dunno, already forgot. One of the good things about getting older is that you forget things quickly!

Now, where'd I park the Yaris?!?

We have an autistic son, and I am always very happy to see parents that will do almost anything to help their kids!

The school in St A is a good one from what I've heard. If I am not mistaken, you drive right by it coming south on A1A from Jax, just past Vilano Beach (it's been a while so excuse me if my memory is a bit foggy). They even have a football team if I remember right...

Best of luck with the move, I know you will enjoy the area and I fully understand the snow thing as we left San Antonio for Belgium for three years, and the one thing I hated the most about Europe was the heavy winters They can be a drag if you have to drive to work in the crappy weather every morning , but a lot of fun when it snows on the weekend when you are out skiiing!

Cheers! M2

Yup, there are enough kids in this school that they have a decent athletic program.

And I don't ski, but I do play golf, something difficult to do in the snow!
