Clinking sound coming from front at slow speeds
Recently I've noticed a clinking sound coming from the front at slow speeds. It sounds like a rock tumbling around, and stops when the wheels are moving a little bit faster. I took off the hubcaps thinking it was a rock between them and the wheel, but their was no rock in the there and it still makes the sound.
Could it be something else? It makes no clinking sound when the car isn't moving, or moving faster then like 10-15mphs. Thanks 2010 Yaris Sedan |

No nail in the tire and I don't think it would be a busted CV. The sound definitely makes it seem like something small is bouncing around in the wheel. Would the warranty cover something like this, even if it's just to check it? First issue I've had with the car. It's also my first new car.

ive seen a rock stuck in the vein in the center of a rotor before making that noise that goes away at faster speeds.
Have you driven over any construction sites recently? To try to isolate the noise maybe jack up each wheel indepenently and spin the wheel by hand and listen for the noise.

This has happened twice to me in the last two years. There is a very small opening at the top of the brake backing plate where a stone can get between the backing plate and enter the hub of the rotor. Once the stone gets in it can't get out because there is no opening on the bottom. The tinging noise you hear is the stone bouncing against the backing plate.
Remove the wheel, remove the caliper (only two bolts hold it on) and remove the rotor. The stone will fall right out. I just had to do this last week. Last edited by kaly5; 04-08-2010 at 07:58 AM. Reason: typo |

A lose hubcap can make noise like that too. My 2002 Echo did that a couple of times
