Transponder key programming

Hey folks, does anybody know how to program a new transponder key without needing to take it in to the dealership?

I bought a new key with the keyless entry remote off eBay some months ago and finally got around to getting the key cut. The keyless entry bit is programmed, easy to do with CTScott's instructions and they key is cut. It opens the doors and cranks the engine but as expected does not start it. The engine immobilizer definitely doesn't recognize it as the light on the dash continues blinking.

Here are the instructions I've tried (copied and pasted from other sources). I was feeling pretty good about #2 but it did not work. I didn't give any of these more than one try because it was way, way too hot to be sitting in the car.

For 1998+ Toyota, Lexus
Add Duplicate Key

1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

For 2002+ Toyota, Lexus
Add Duplicate Key
Requires one working Toyota/Lexus Master Key.

1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed.
2. Insert Master key into the ignition cylinder.
3. Cycle the ignition cylinder from On to OFF five times.
4. Open and close the “driver side” door 6 times.
5. Remove the Master Key and insert the new duplicates key.
6. TURN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON.
7. The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.

1. First you will need to purchase a blank Toyota transponder key. You can do this from the dealership, a locksmith, or an online source such as eBay. Once you have the key, take the blank key and the master key to a locksmith that he or she can duplicate the key. This will be much cheaper than the dealership.

1. Have your Corolla key on you and close all of the doors and windows of the vehicle.
2. Lock and unlock the driver's door with your key. Enter the car through that door and close it behind you.
3. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it there without turning until the security light turns on and remains on for 15 seconds.
