Replacing Bulb in AT Gearshift

Anyone know how to take the gearshift grip and trim off to replace the bulb?

actually i don't know, still haven't had time to do the mod, but these are the correct instructions, so i'm sure it will be easy to find.

It isn't clear on the instuctions after you unsrew the gear handle if the top of the gearshift console(where the gears are marked) has to be dissassembled before you can remove the console box as per the instructions

I'm thinking you don't have to do all that. The thing should just lift up and the bulb is right there from what I'm told. I think this should only take a few minutes. Violin didn't make it sound like much at all.

Right, I remember it and I pm'd him about this as well because he is the only person I know of who has actually put the LED in. I don't recall anything about taking the handle off of the shifter or anything. He said remove the clips, unplug any electronics, take the bolt out of the cup holder lift up and pop the bulb in.

What I'm getting at is why would you need to take the handle off or the "gearshft console" the thing with the pr123 on it, just because the pisture shows it that way? I don't think it's necessary. Trust me this guide is not for changing that bulb but it is all that could be found and from what I have been told you do what it says and list the whole consol up. The bulb can't be too hard to find.

Thanks Brick - My bulbs for the shifter and climate control knobs should be here next week along with 50 blue LED's for the integrated cd player. I hope I can get the face off of the thing to get at the backlight board to replace the LED's for the front display. Any info on that?

That part is totally easy. As someone told me you just start pulling, all that stuff will come of with your hands. Don't go crazy and break anything but you'll get a feel for it. Check the search box on this one. There is a very easy to follow DIY on the ac knobs. I did mine in a 10-15 minutes. I would suggest using a small screw driver to turn and remove the bulb that are in there now and it worked wll for me when I dropped the new ones in. Very easy install. Good place to start.

You have to unscrew the shift knob before you lift the console off of it. The whole process takes about 7 minutes. It's EASY. You'll find the bulb on the left of the shifter.

Don't mess with the part where the numbers are marked - the console lifts right off of that.

I knew he would chime in. Thanks again. Maybe someday I'll actually do this. Hopefully before the damn LED get's lost in the mix.

Thanks much Violin. (and Brick.) My Yaris is about 3 weeks old and after finding the site I realized I needed to personalize it a bit. Once the knob is unscewed and the bolt in the back of the console is out, when you go to pull the console box out are there any wire harness or clips that need to be undone? I don't wanna rip any wires out.

If the lb is anything like the sedan (which they are) you wont need to un/re-do any wiring, I simply untiwisted mine and twisted the new one back in its place..
