What year Yaris should i purchase?

Hello all,

I already figured out that im looking to buy a used firsthand yaris, but im not sure as to what year model to purchase.

budget wise - i can afford up to a 2005 model.

im looking to buy one with rather low mileage, as i plan on owning it for only 2 years then selling it back.

accordingly, id like any and all advice as to what year model i should prefer? id appriciate if someone could lay out the main differences (general, cosmetic, mechanic, preformance) between 2002-5 models.

thanks!
ari

Are you sure your not looking for an Echo? I think the Yaris came out in 2005 but I could be wrong.
Why not buy a new 2012 Yaris and have a decade of worry free driving?

Hey Ari,

In 2000-2005 Toyota didn't make the Yaris, but it did make the Echo and it looks like this...

Is this the kind of car you're looking for? I always thought they were neat for practical economical transportation.

.... in the rest of the world the Echo was called the Yaris. The gentleman is in Israel.

well except in asia where it was called a few different things...

but besides engine sizes there really are not any differences. You might be able to get a hatch or a sedan, the sedan was all the US got, and Canada only had the hatch for a few years.

I can't think of anything else really different.

Aside from engine differences, a late model 1.5L is probably the best bet. Most power, and the 1.5L is used in a lot of Toyota products.

I love that model. Don't know why, it just looks the way a hatch should.

Arrow No way.....Just impressed with the " Just drive off the lot" thing like the old days.

Im sorry if I was giving you the wrong impression. I was just blown away for a car lot to say " Sure just take it now, and will see you in 2 hours...enjoy". I shoped heavily in my area went to 7 diffrent lots including local toyota dealer twice. Just got hammered at each lot to buy something right now. Just walk into your local hertz and see. Its simple, straght forward and having bought over a dozen cars or so in my day, I like not being pressured on a car. NO I dont work for hertz. Im a guy just happy about his car choice and the experiance of non-pressure at the car lot for once.Try it you might like it....
