Any FLorida Drivers - Need Advice
I got a citation for failure to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign. I did a "rolling stop". meh. The officer gave 3 choices: 1) fight the citation in court - usually this will result in me getting a judgment against me and with added fines and what not, 2) pay the fine - but will get me points against my record and with an increase in my insurance, 3) pay the fine and take the online 4-hour traffic course - that course is an additional $9.95 but will not result in an increase in insurance and no points assessed against my record.
I know the obvious answer is "3" but I'd like to hear from you Yaris Florida drivers. FYI - this is my first ticket in Florida. I've gotten a speeding ticket in Illinois in the early nineties and two speeding tickets in North Carolina in the early 2000's. No other tickets or citations so far. Knock on wood. It seems that the fine is $166.00. Now this makes it a game changer for me. Looking over the citation the officer wrote down "2001" for the year of my Yaris when it's actually 2010. Any central Floridians can recommend an affordable traffic lawyer for me? Last edited by fluke_boy; 07-19-2010 at 10:36 AM. |

This site offers a fee "for as little as $75.00"/. The total with the fine and the course fee is $75.95 (+ taxes?). Easy choice then. But I'd still like to hear from other Florida drivers, though.

Do yourself the favor and just do the online course to avoid the points/increased insurance. Tickets drop off after 3 years (pretty standard amongst all states).
And yes, a "rolling stop" is not a complete stop and you can/will be cited for it, as you have now learned. Always advisable to come to a full, complete stop for approx 5-10seconds before even thinking about proceeding forward. No, I'm not in FL, but I see too many people drive like that. It's extremely frustrating as you never fully know if someone will stop when you're there at a 4-way stop waiting for your turn.

Minor technicality that will most likely not get you out of the ticket.
